Our highly respected and established Engineering client in Bridgend is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join them on a permanent basis. This is a key hire for the company, and you will play a leading role in New Product Development and provide mechanical engineering support for current products to enhance productivity, reliability, and continuity of performance and build. The products will range from small component designs to complex turnkey solutions. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly technical and global company whose products are sold throughout the world across many industry sectors.
Salary & Benefits: Our client offers an excellent working environment, a friendly and diverse team, and the opportunity to develop a rewarding career. Normal hours of work will be 37 per week (Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am to 1.30pm). As well as a generous salary (up to 45k), you will get 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, free on-site parking, enhanced pension scheme, and a generous company annual bonus scheme.
Key Duties:
- Design and implement cost-effective equipment and solutions for engineering problems.
- Develop a project specification in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
- Produce details of specifications and outline designs.
- Design robust solutions within a 3D environment, ensuring best practice modelling to minimise waste and eliminate conflicting information.
- Solve complex problems with customers, internal departments, sub-contractors and suppliers, considering cost, safety, and time constraints.
- Assemble prototypes, recommending modifications following prototype test results.
- Preparing product documentation for service, publications and sales and marketing.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- The ideal candidate will be qualified to degree level in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
- 5 years' experience in a product development environment.
- Experience of using Autodesk Inventor for part drawing and assembly creation (or alternative packages such as Creo or SolidWorks).
- Experience of BoM creation and control within CAD package.
- Experience of Vault or other PLM software.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate both mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Knowledge and experience of working within a formal ECN process.
- Ability to manage time and resources and prioritise tasks.
- Willingness to travel and undertake customer visits when required.
- Strong verbal and precise written communications skills.
