Overview
Packaging Technologist — Cheshire
Are you someone who can challenge thinking, come up with new ways to get packaging working harder (and costing less), and actually make it stick?
This is an opportunity to join a well-established, values-driven business operating in the food sector. The role sits within a collaborative and commercially focused team where packaging is seen as a critical enabler—not an afterthought.
We’re looking for someone who understands the commercial, technical and environmental aspects of packaging and knows how to bring them together to deliver tangible results across the supply chain.
The Role
As Packaging Technologist, you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering new packaging solutions that not only meet customer and operational requirements, but also support sustainability and cost optimisation goals.
You’ll be a key player in driving both innovation and continuous improvement across packaging, working closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure concepts are commercially viable and technically robust.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead packaging innovation across primary, secondary and tertiary formats
- Identify and implement packaging optimisation opportunities to reduce cost, lower packaging tax liabilities, and improve supply chain efficiency
- Collaborate with internal functions including Technical, Development and Procurement to align packaging strategy with NPD and EPD activity
- Manage relationships with packaging and product suppliers to support technical development and innovation pipelines
- Support the delivery of packaging activity within the business’s formal stage-gate process
About You
You’ll bring a solid background in packaging—ideally from the Food & Drink sector—with experience across a variety of substrates and product types.
You’re someone who combines technical expertise with commercial awareness and can communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
Ideally you’ll have
- Proven experience in a packaging-focused role
- A strong understanding of packaging innovation and optimisation techniques
- Confidence working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent supplier management and communication skills
- Experience of working across a full supply chain, including indirect suppliers and distribution
- Knowledge of the impact of packaging taxation and sustainability trends
What’s on Offer
In return, you’ll join a supportive and forward-thinking team within a company that truly values its people. You can expect genuine opportunities for professional growth, a competitive salary and benefits package, and the chance to contribute to high-impact work that makes a difference—for customers, colleagues and communities alike.
If you’re looking for a role where you can bring ideas to life, influence strategy and be part of a collaborative and growing team—this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
