Field Based (Exeter) with frequent travel across the South West region. Up to £41,000 + Van.
If you’re a networking and infrastructure engineer who’d rather be hands-on in the field than stuck behind a helpdesk — this one’s for you. Focus Group is a £300m-revenue, Hg Capital-backed technology business serving 30,000 SME customers across the UK. Following our $1bn valuation in 2024, we’re scaling rapidly and need technically sharp solutions engineers to deliver world-class network and infrastructure projects on the ground across the South West.
The Role: Based from home in the Exeter area, you’ll be the face of Focus Group across the South West region — visiting customer sites to design, deploy, and troubleshoot complex networking and server infrastructure. One day you might be commissioning a multi-site SD-WAN deployment; the next, migrating a customer’s server environment or resolving a critical network outage for a fast-growing business. No two days are the same. That’s the point.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Designing and deploying network infrastructure — routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless across SME and enterprise sites
- Installing and configuring server environments — Windows Server, virtualisation, and hybrid cloud solutions
- Delivering onsite and remote support for customers across the South West region
- Leading fault resolution for time-critical network and infrastructure failures
- Taking ownership of multi-technology, multi-site project delivery from start to finish
- Auditing and documenting client infrastructure with precision
- Collaborating with Project Managers, Service Desk, and 3rd Line Engineers
What We’re Looking For:
- Solid hands-on experience deploying and supporting network infrastructure — routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless
- Strong server skills — Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware)
- Experience with cloud and hybrid environments — Azure, Azure AD, and server migrations
- A confident troubleshooter — tenacious, methodical, and solution-focused under pressure
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
Bonus Points For:
- Previous MSP or field engineering experience
- Vendor certifications — Cisco, Meraki, SonicWall, Aruba, Fortinet, or similar
- Experience with SD-WAN, VLANs, VPNs, or structured cabling projects
What You’ll Get:
- Up to £41,000 base salary
- Company van provided
- Clear progression routes — Senior Solutions Engineer, Team Leader, and beyond
- The backing of a $1bn technology business with real momentum and serious investment in AI
Why Focus Group? We’re not a business standing still. We’re scaling, acquiring, and investing in AI to redefine what great managed services look like. Our engineers are at the heart of that — trusted, technically stretched, and given the tools to do their best work. If you’re a self-starter who thrives on complex infrastructure challenges, loves solving real problems in the field, and wants to grow with a business that’s going places — we’d love to hear from you.
