Focus Group is seeking an experienced Telecoms Field Engineer to join our growing technical team, supporting the deployment and maintenance of unified communications and telephony solutions across the Manchester region.

The Role
You will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecoms infrastructure across client sites in the North/Manchester region. This hands-on role combines technical expertise in telephony systems with structured cabling and fibre installation, ensuring our clients receive reliable, high-performance communications solutions. This is a home-based position with travel across the Manchester region most days.
What You’ll Do
- Deploy structured cabling solutions across commercial environments
- Install and terminate copper cabling (Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a) to industry standards
- Install blown fibre tubing and cables using specialised equipment
- Perform fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing
- Conduct OTDR testing and use light source/power meters for verification
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on client sites
- Participate in on-call rota to support critical client systems
- Ensure all installations comply with relevant industry standards and regulations
- Provide technical documentation and handover information
- Learn to install, configure, and maintain telecoms systems including Horizon, LG, and other unified communications platforms
Essential Experience
- Structured cabling installation and testing (Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a)
- Blown fibre system installation and maintenance
- Fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing
- OTDR testing and fusion splicing techniques
- Competent with industry-standard tools and testing equipment
- Willingness to learn Horizon and LG telephony systems
