Workday Technical Director Integration, Extend and AI | Design Authority
Location

Type
Permanent\n
Package
£120k plus bonus, plus equity or profit share\n
Start
Flexible.
We will wait for the right person.\n \n \n Why this role exists Most Workday partners sell delivery capacity.
We are building a platform business on top of Workday, and the difference between those two things is architecture.\n \n \n We need one person who owns the technical direction of everything we build: the integration patterns, the Extend estate, the orchestration layer, and the AI proposition that sits across all of it.
Not a reviewer of other people's designs.
The design authority.
Final say.\n \n \n This is a role for someone who has already run global Workday delivery at scale, has done the governance frameworks and the steering committees and the programme recoveries, and has reached the point where the constraint on their impact is the organisation around them rather than the problem in front of them.\n \n \n What you will own
- Architecture and design authority \n \n \n \n
- Own the reference architecture for Workday integration, Extend and orchestration across every client engagement \n
- Set and govern API strategy, event-driven design patterns and reusable accelerators \n
- Hold final technical sign-off on solution designs, integration design documents and data mapping specifications \n
- Chair the design review board. Kill bad designs early and say why \n
- AI and Extend proposition \n \n \n \n
- Build our AI capability into a productised, repeatable offering rather than a set of one-off client experiments \n
- Own our position on Workday AI agents, SANA and adjacent orchestration tooling \n
- Define where AI genuinely removes cost and risk from HR, payroll and finance operations, and where it is theatre \n
- Take that proposition to market alongside our sales and partner teams \n
- Regulated and secure delivery \n \n \n \n
- Act as technical lead on transformation programmes in regulated and public sector environments \n
- Own compliance, security architecture and scalability posture across cleared engagements \n
- Represent us in security assurance and client design authority forums \n
- Delivery leadership \n \n \n \n
- Lead and grow a distributed architecture and integration team \n
- Own testing strategy end to end: SIT, UAT, E2E, parallel payroll and reconciliation \n
- Own cutover planning, deployment sequencing and hypercare stabilisation \n
- Drive CI/CD and Dev Ops maturity across the Workday practice \n
- Commercial \n \n \n \n
- Own solution architecture on major bids, RFPs and framework responses \n
- Sit in front of clients from CHRO and CIO down to technical teams and be credible in both rooms \n
- Shape scope and estimate with commercial reality attached, not aspiration \n What you will bring
- Non-negotiable \n \n \n \n
- Substantial Workday career across implementation, AMS and transformation \n
- Deep, current expertise across Workday Extend, Studio, Orchestrate, Core Connectors, EIB and PECI \n
- Proven architecture ownership on global, multi-country programmes \n
- Global payroll integration depth across major international payroll providers \n
- Track record leading distributed technical teams \n
- Existing clearance or the ability to obtain it \n
- Experience owning delivery governance: RAID, quality gates, KPIs, design reviews \n
- Strongly preferred \n \n \n \n
- Practice or workstream leadership experience at senior level \n
- Hands-on with Workday AI capability, with certification to back it \n
- Broad integration surface beyond payroll across ERP, finance, ITSM, CRM, workforce management, identity and analytics platforms \n
- Programme recovery experience. Anyone can run a green programme \n
- Agile credential such as Certified Scrum Master \n
- Degree level education, business or technical \n What this is not\n \n
- Not a hands-off enterprise architecture role that produces slides nobody builds from \n
- Not a delivery manager role with an architect title on it \n
- Not a role where you inherit someone else's patterns and are told to enforce them \n
- Not a utilisation number on a resourcing spreadsheet \n What we offer\n \n
- Genuine design authority with no architecture layer above you \n
- Direct route to practice leadership and a stake in what you build \n
- Clearance recognised properly in the package and sponsorship maintained \n
- Budget for Workday certification and early access to product releases \n
- Flexibility on notice periods. We are hiring for the next five years, not next month \n
- Remote-first working with real autonomy over your diary \n
