Are you an experienced SAP, SBEM, or TM59 assessor looking to work on a wide variety of new-build and refurbishment projects? Focus 360 Energy is seeking a technically minded Energy & Building Compliance Consultant to join our expanding sustainability team. This role is ideal for someone with a background in Part L energy modelling, overheating assessments, and planning-stage energy compliance who wants to progress into broader sustainability areas such as Whole Life-Cycle Carbon, BREEAM, and Net Zero strategies.
About Focus 360 Energy: Focus 360 Energy is a fast-growing, multidisciplinary consultancy providing full end-to-end compliance solutions for the built environment — from early planning through to handover and in-use operation. Our clients range from architects and developers to housing associations and commercial landlords, with projects spanning from single dwellings to multi-unit developments and large commercial estates.
We specialise in:
- Energy & Sustainability Assessments (SAP, SBEM, EPC, Energy Statements)
- Overheating (TM59/TM52) and Thermal Comfort Modelling
- Whole Life-Cycle Carbon & Circular Economy Statements
- Daylight & Sunlight Assessments
- Decarbonisation and Net Zero Strategies for existing building portfolios
- BREEAM, Planning, and Environmental Compliance
We’re now expanding our in-house sustainability team to support national growth and new major partnerships — including high-profile portfolios such as MOD, Camden Market, Trident Group (900 commercial buildings), and St Austell Brewery.
The Role: As a Sustainability Specialist, you’ll play a central role in delivering our core energy and sustainability services, supporting clients from the early design stage through to post-construction. You’ll work closely with our assessors, architects, and developers, providing technical expertise across SAP, SBEM, and IES modelling. The role also offers exposure to wider sustainability initiatives, including Whole Life-Cycle Carbon, BREEAM, and Net Zero Decarbonisation strategies — with clear development pathways into these areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out SAP and SBEM calculations and produce EPCs for domestic and non-domestic buildings.
- Prepare Energy Statements for planning submissions, including London Plan compliance and regional equivalents.
- Conduct Overheating Assessments in line with TM59 and TM52.
- Support or lead on Whole Life-Cycle Carbon Assessments and Circular Economy Statements.
- Undertake Daylight & Sunlight Modelling for residential and mixed-use developments.
- Assist in producing Decarbonisation Reports and Net Zero Strategies for large-scale commercial estates.
- Liaise directly with clients, local authorities, and design teams to provide clear technical advice.
- Support the development of internal methodologies, templates, and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Contribute to mentoring junior assessors and shaping the future sustainability division as we continue to grow.
About You: We’re looking for someone proactive, technically skilled, and commercially aware — someone who wants to grow with a business that values initiative and ambition.
Essential skills and experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience producing SAP, SBEM and overheating assessments for UK Building Regulation compliance.
- Strong technical modelling experience — rather than general sustainability or ESG background.
- Proficiency with IES-VE, Elmhurst or similar accredited software for SAP/SBEM/TM59/TM52.
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations Part L, TM52/59, and energy compliance frameworks.
- Experience preparing Energy Statements for planning.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Degree in Environmental Design, Building Physics, Sustainability Engineering, or similar.
Desirable (advantageous):
- Experience with BREEAM (Assessor or AP) – or willingness to requalify (supported).
- Familiarity with OneClick LCA, TM54, or energy auditing (ESOS).
- Experience producing Whole Life-Cycle Carbon or Decarbonisation Reports.
- Knowledge of daylight/sunlight or natural ventilation modelling.
What We Offer:
- Structured Training Programme with clear development milestones.
- Flexible Home Office Working – fully remote with optional office meet-ups.
- Company-Provided Equipment – phone and laptop setup.
- Private Medical Insurance.
- Professional Memberships Covered (e.g. IES, Elmhurst, CIBSE).
- 25 Days Annual Leave plus bank holidays.
- Quarterly Team Days & Industry Events in London – with food, drinks, and networking.
- Genuine progression opportunities — including leading your own sustainability team as we scale.
Why Join Us: At Focus 360 Energy, you’re not just a number — you’re part of an ambitious company on a clear growth path. We actively support career progression, new qualifications (including BREEAM), and opportunities to help shape the future of sustainable design and compliance in the UK. You’ll have exposure to a diverse portfolio — from single-unit dwellings to complex commercial estates — working alongside leading developers, architects, and engineers who share your passion for creating low-carbon, compliant, and future-ready buildings.
