About us
Focaldata is building a new kind of tech-enabled research company — delivering deep insight at the speed of software. You’ll work alongside a collaborative team of researchers, engineers, data scientists, product builders, and client leads. We do impactful work with leading organisations — from brands like New Balance to campaign groups like Hope Not Hate and non-profits like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. If you want real ownership, clear impact, and a front-row seat to how a fast-growing business wins work, we’d love to talk.
About the role
We’re hiring a Sales Associate to help move deals from first conversation through to close, taking real ownership of the day-to-day work that turns interest into revenue. Focaldata is building a category-defining research platform: world-class research powered by market-leading AI products. This role sits right in the middle of our commercial work. You’ll be involved end to end, from early sales conversations and pitch prep through to proposals, follow-ups, and getting deals over the line. It’s a hands-on role with real responsibility: you’ll work closely with different people across the business and take ownership of how our sales process runs day to day; helping make it clearer, more efficient, and easier to scale. You’ll see the direct impact your work has on company revenue, giving you plenty of opportunity to learn fast and grow in your career as part of a forward-thinking startup.
What you’ll do
- Support live deals from first conversation through to close, helping turn interest into signed work.
- Join sales meetings and pitches, capture decisions, and make sure next steps are clear and followed up.
- Prepare and tailor proposals, pitch decks, and written responses for different clients and use cases.
- Coordinate inputs across the business on pricing, scope, case studies, and credentials.
- Keep the sales pipeline organised and up to date, tracking actions, deadlines, and risks.
- Flag stalled or at-risk opportunities early and help unblock them.
- Support outbound and inbound opportunities through research, outreach, meeting prep, and follow-up.
- Feed learnings from live deals back into our sales materials and processes to help us sell more effectively.
Who you are (skills and experience)
- 1-3 years experience in a commercial, business development, sales support, or client-facing role in a B2B environment (ideally in market research or similar industry).
- Strong written communication skills — able to produce clear, professional proposals, emails, and sales materials.
- Highly organised, with the ability to juggle multiple opportunities, deadlines, and follow-ups at once.
- Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and confident chasing inputs, clarifying asks, and keeping things moving.
- Familiar with CRMs, pipeline tracking, or sales tools — or keen to learn quickly.
- Comfortable in meetings, taking notes, capturing decisions, and following through on next steps.
- Attention to detail combined with pace — you care about quality but don’t get stuck polishing.
Who you are (mindset)
- You take ownership and hate loose ends.
- You’re proactive and action-oriented — you don’t wait to be told what to do next.
- You enjoy coordinating people and information to make things run more smoothly.
- You’re commercially curious and want to understand what drives deals forward.
- You’re comfortable learning on the job and growing fast in a startup environment.
- You care about doing things well and making a visible impact on the business.
