FMS Fire and Security provide consultancy, design, tender, installation, commissioning, training, maintenance and service for single, integrated and multi-discipline electronic fire and security systems. These systems incorporate Fire Detection, Fire Extinguishing Systems, Intruder Alarms, Closed Circuit Television, Access Control, Emergency Lighting and Voice Evacuation Systems, as well as Gates, Barriers, Turnstiles, Cabling and Security Lighting. FMS Fire and Security Ltd are a Quality Assured company certified and audited through UKAS. We hold NSI Gold status for security disciplines and also NSI Gold Fire for the BAFE SP203 scheme.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the finance function. This role will play a key part in ensuring accurate financial processing, maintaining strong supplier and customer relationships, and supporting core accounting processes across weekly and monthly cycles.
Responsibilities
- Manage credit control activities, including chasing outstanding payments and maintaining accurate debtor records.
- Respond to and resolve customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Handle ad hoc finance queries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Process purchase ledger invoices, ensuring accuracy and appropriate approvals.
- Review and process staff expense claims in line with company policy.
- Set up and maintain supplier accounts in Sage.
- Process bank transactions, ensuring accurate posting and coding.
- Support the preparation of bank reconciliations.
- Assist in producing weekly cash flow forecasts.
Monthly Tasks
- Perform reconciliation of engineer timesheets.
- Reconcile supplier statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Assist with payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate data input.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including additions and disposals.
Skills and Experience required
- Previous experience in a finance or accounts assistant role desirable.
- Understanding of purchase ledger, credit control, and reconciliations.
- Experience with Sage 50 (or similar accounting software) preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a positive work ethic.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
