If this sounds like you we are looking for a Chef to join our busy catering team at Ladywell Convent, Godalming. Working predominantly in the La Verna Care Home you will be providing meals for our Sisters who live there, their visitors and members of our staff team. Using fresh, seasonal ingredients our catering team create menus to suit various dietary requirements with the freedom to serve a wide variety of dishes, meaning no one week\’s menu is ever the same.
This is a fulltime role, working 5 out of 7 days over a 37.5 hour week with shifts falling between the hours of 7am and 7.30pm. The pay is £28,000-£32,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Based within the grounds of Ladywell Convent in Godalming, our La Verna Care Home accommodates our wonderful Sisters from the FMDM Congregation who now require care after years of service all across the world. We are looking for a compassionate individual who enjoys working as part of a team and delivers exceptional levels of service.
About the Role
Working together with our Head Chef and other Chefs you will also be responsible for fostering staff, collaborating on specialised dietary meals, procedural excellence and ensuring our high food and hygiene standards are maintained.
Your duties will include, but not limited to:
- Actively contributing to the development of menus and upholding high food preparation standards to ensure culinary excellence
- Support in the planning and provision of high-quality meals, working within any budget guidelines
- Supervision of catering operations in the absence of the Head and Deputy Head Chef, ensuring meals are prepared and served to specialised dietary requirements
- Nurturing a culture of excellence among the catering team, overseeing daily tasks and the integration of quality systems and procedures
- Collaborating with line management to maintain effective food standards, sustain equipment functionality, and ensuring cleanliness throughout the department
- Demonstrate a strong awareness of and adherence to Food Standards Agency regulations and Health and Safety requirements
- Maintenance of the correct storage temperature for food items, prioritising accurate record-keeping, and upholding hygiene and equipment standards
- Occasion support of the kitchen and preparing for meals for La Verna will be required to cover absences

About You
You will be an experienced and qualified Chef with a proficiency in managing workplace allergens (with a minimum Level 2 Food Safety certification) is essential. You\’ll have a proactive approach to further qualifications, such as IOSH – Risk Assessment, Level 3 Food Preparation, or Team Leading, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development.
