Senior Operations Director - M&E / HVAC Contractor — Edinburgh | Mechanical & HVAC Focus. Exclusive Appointment with FM Search & Select. FM Search & Select are working exclusively with a long-established M&E contractor to appoint a Senior Operations Director to lead the next phase of the business. This is a business with over 25 years' trading history, a strong reputation within the FM and building services sector, and a culture built on technical excellence, service delivery, and long-term relationships. Following sustained growth, they are now looking for a senior operational leader to take ownership of day-to-day performance and future direction.
Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for operational delivery across mechanical and HVAC contracts
- Lead and develop senior managers, engineers, and support functions
- Drive performance across service, maintenance, projects, and compliance
- Apply strong technical judgement to decision-making across plant rooms, heating systems, controls, and mechanical infrastructure
- Work closely with the owners to shape strategy, growth plans, and succession
- Ensure robust financial control, forecasting, and margin protection
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with key FM clients and partners
About You
This role will only suit someone from a mechanical / HVAC background. You will likely be:
- A Senior Operations Director / Operations Director / Divisional Director within an M&E, FM or HVAC contractor
- Technically grounded in commercial heating, HVAC systems, plant, plumbing, and controls
- Comfortable leading complex operational teams and live contracts
- Commercially astute, with experience managing P&L and operational risk
- A visible, people-focused leader who values quality, service, and reputation
