FM Conway is currently seeking an Asphalt Plant Manager to join our Aggregate and Asphalt division and play a key role in launching our brand-new asphalt manufacturing plant in Wellingborough. Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, the Plant Manager will oversee the operations and continuous improvement of the plant. You will utilise excellent people management, commercial and operational skills to ensure profitability, efficiency, and health and safety are prioritised and always delivered. This is a full-time, permanent role.
With over 15 years’ experience producing high-quality asphalt, FM Conway operates seven successful asphalt plants across the South of England and is now expanding into the Midlands with our eighth site in Wellingborough. The successful Plant Manager will lead a brand-new team and will be crucial to setting up the new plant. This is a unique opportunity to grow with the business and make a difference from the very beginning. Joining ahead of the plant opening in 2027, you will initially work across our existing Southeast sites, receiving full training and structured induction support to understand our operations and systems. By the time the new plant opens, you will be fully prepared to lead from day one and ready to establish a successful new asphalt production site.
The duties of the Asphalt Plant Manager role will include:
- Managing and motivating the operational team to achieve excellence and continual improvement
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, as well as quality standards
- Creating, managing, and maintaining the site improvement plan
- Collating KPIs and driving continuous improvement
- Managing stock levels of fuel, constituent and raw materials
- Ensuring mixing plans are carried out in an effective and cost-effective manner
- Ensuring all staff are suitably trained and developed to perform their duties safely and effectively
- Ensuring any critical issues are highlighted, including timely and accurate incident reporting
What skills and experience do you need?
We are looking for a strong leader with experience in Asphalt or the Manufacturing industry. You will have excellent health and safety awareness, be commercially aware, and improvement focused. Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages is essential, as is a full UK driving licence. A NEBOSH or IOSH qualification would be advantageous, although not essential.
