FM Conway is currently recruiting an Estimator to join our successful Term Maintenance team. As our Estimator, you will be demonstrating a good commercial awareness and preparing tenders for submission in line with company procedures and processes, considering all commercial, health, safety and environmental requirements of the scheme. This is a full-time, permanent position based from our Paddington office.
The duties of the Estimator role will include:
- Establishing the level of interest in the tender by evaluating the risks, opportunities, conditions of the contract, work type and location of work
- Reviewing and compiling alternative tender offers with a view towards value, engineering and alternatives
- Setting dates for amber and green reviews at an early stage to ensure the relevant senior management are available for the tender assessments
- Determining the level of resources required to complete a fully compliant tender for submission
- Allocating tasks or requesting assistance from other divisions and external resources as required to produce a fully compliant tender submission
- Liaising with the planners to ensure the programme is drawn up, the programme is resourced by the planner and the resourcing levels have been planned and priced
- Undertaking client communication and negotiation, including chasing tender results
What skills and experience do you need?
As an Estimator, you will be expected to possess outstanding customer service skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office. A comprehensive understanding of S278 and S106 works, as well as expertise in CAD software for drafting and design, is essential for this role. Additionally, prior experience in a similar position is crucial to ensure success in this role. You should also have a strong knowledge of the Highway Method of Measurement, including highways and other relevant measurement standards, to ensure accurate and compliant estimations. A basic understanding of contracts, including their structure and key terms, as well as familiarity with different pricing methods such as lump sum, unit rates, and cost-plus, will be essential for effectively managing project budgets and client expectations.
