FM Conway is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic Term Maintenance business unit, supporting our Westminster Contract. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your commercial career while working on a high-profile highways maintenance contract, delivering essential services that help keep London's roads, footways and public spaces safe and well maintained.
Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors within our established commercial team, you'll gain hands‑on experience across both planned and reactive maintenance works. You'll support the commercial management of the contract from tender through to final account, developing your technical knowledge while contributing to the successful delivery of essential infrastructure projects. This is a permanent, full‑time position based from our office in Paddington, Greater London.
As our Assistant Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the commercial management of planned and reactive highway maintenance works
- Assisting with the preparation and agreement of applications for payment and payment certificates
- Preparing cost estimates, measurements and valuations for completed works
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement, valuations and payments in line with company procedures
- Monitoring costs, cash flow and contract performance while identifying commercial risks and opportunities
- Carrying out site measurements and supporting commercial discussions with clients and subcontractors
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and ensuring contractual compliance
- Supporting senior members of the commercial team with monthly reporting and profit forecasting
What we're looking for:
We're looking for a motivated and commercially minded individual who is keen to build a successful career in quantity surveying within the highways maintenance and infrastructure sector. You'll have:
- A Quantity Surveying degree (or be working towards one), or an equivalent qualification
- A genuine interest in highways, infrastructure or construction projects
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn from experienced colleagues
- Competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- A full UK driving licence (or be working towards obtaining one) would be advantageous
Experience of NEC contracts, highway maintenance or construction projects would be beneficial but is not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.
