FM Conway is looking for a talented and motivated Highways Engineer to join our dynamic Consultancy team. In this role, you will lead the delivery of annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes for carriageways and footways on behalf of one of our key clients. Working closely with our operational delivery teams, you will play an integral part in projects from initial planning and design through to successful construction completion. This is a full‑time, permanent position based at our Paddington office.
Duties
- Leading and managing the delivery of annual carriageway and footway maintenance programmes.
- Supervising and supporting team members in the preparation of highway designs, estimates, and technical documentation.
- Producing reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities, and cost estimates in accordance with local authority procedures and project requirements.
- Undertaking Designer duties in compliance with CDM Regulations and support safe project delivery.
- Managing day‑to‑day communications and correspondence with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams.
- Supporting risk management processes, including identifying and mitigating risks, reporting incidents, carrying out investigations, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborating closely with delivery teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
What skills and experience do you need?
Candidates should possess strong experience in highway engineering within a consultancy environment, with particular expertise in urban realm and geometric highway design. You will be confident working with both local authority and private sector clients, demonstrating a clear understanding of their operational needs, standards, and expectations. The successful candidate will have the ability to interpret and deliver highway design solutions. A sound understanding of contract administration and procurement routes, including NEC3 contracts, is also essential. You will hold a relevant HND qualification or equivalent professional experience, with excellent technical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
