FM Conway is currently looking to recruit an Apprentice Fitter to join our Plant and Workshop division. You will work in a supported learning environment, learning the practical skills and knowledge in maintaining, servicing and repairing all types of HGVs, trailers and light commercial vehicles, under the guidance of skilled fitters, whilst completing your Level 3 Construction Equipment Maintenance Mechanic qualification. This full‑time permanent role will be based at our Dartford depot.

The duties of the Apprentice Fitter will include:

  • Assisting with servicing, maintaining, and repairing all types of the fleet
  • Learning to use diagnostic equipment to identify electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical faults
  • Assisting with welding, replacing parts, and repairing vehicle bodywork
  • Using our internal maintenance software to complete service and maintenance records accurately ensuring parts are correctly recorded, photo evidence of before and after condition is on the report
  • Complying with company health, safety, and environmental policy, highlighting any issues appropriately

What skills and experience do you need?

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, team player who has a genuine interest in mechanics, engineering or electrical systems. You will have a practical mind and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment. To qualify for this course, you will need a grade 4 or above in your Maths and English GCSEs.

Our team work hard maintaining our wide range of heavy plant and small tools which include Excavators, Dumpers, Rollers, JCB’s, Bulkers, Low Loaders, Grabs, Tippers, Bitumen Tankers, Relocate lorries, Volumetric Mixers, Pavers and Planers.
