We are looking for a Legal Counsel, Litigation to join our Legal team on a one year fixed term contract (parent cover) based in our London office, but working flexibly between office and home. This role follows a hybrid approach to working, allowing you to combine working from home with working in our modern offices. These discussions are between you and your manager to find the best pattern for you both, while recognising that quality time together is essential for keeping us mission-aligned.

Our London office is based in Blackfriars within the Arbor building. This office is a dynamic, state-of-the-art space designed to inspire collaboration and innovation. What you’ll do:

  • Reporting directly to, and working with, Head of Litigation within the IP & Litigation team of Flutter International, this position will be responsible for overseeing a broad range of contentious legal matters, including commercial litigation, across the international business and in multiple jurisdictions, along with other general legal matters.
  • The person filling this position will work directly with the Group’s business and legal personnel, and external counsel (where appropriate), to manage the contentious and litigation matters (often within wider strategic context), and provide the full spectrum of advice, guidance, support and oversight.
  • This will include anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the business and developing strategies to handle and mitigate potential legal risks, providing advice and support to other parts of the Legal and Risk function, including the Business Integrity & Financial Crime and Compliance departments, as well as being responsible for maintaining Flutter International’s related internal records.

  • Proven experience in an internationally recognized law firm, in-house experience a plus, with experience across a broad range of contentious matters.
  • Strong organisational, project management and execution skills.
  • Proactive approach to recognizing needs, anticipating issues and solving problems.
  • Flexibility and ability to take on a varied workload and balance and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks, and manage competing priorities effectively and independently, including driving results and delivering to deadlines and budgets.
  • Ability to take ownership of own workload and adopt a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, key stakeholders in the business, and our external advisors, team-oriented attitude, and superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and pre-empt key legal issues and present information on a variety of risks to the business in an accessible way.
