Already responsible for supporting the business in billion-dollar revenues, we need to modernize the platform to ensure it is fit for the future of our B2B Poker product. Using technologies such as Databricks, Looker, and Flink on AWS, you will have the opportunity to drive our journey into the future, not just technology but process practices, ensuring we have a state-of-the-art operational approach with highly efficient build and deployment being integral to success.
You need experience of working with large teams and driving technical strategy and direction with a clear understanding of commercial and business drivers. You need to be passionate about technical communities, allowing others to step forward and coaching them to learn and become effective technical decision makers. You will be time-served in leading multiple engineers and will understand the fine balance between collaboration and decision making. While not a direct line-management role, you will be accountable for defining and enforcing best practices, acting as a lead and ensuring we make the best possible decisions in our approach to development and that we, as a Tribe, are promoting a vibrant culture of innovation and curiosity.
Reporting to The Director of Technology and working with significant autonomy, this is a senior technical leadership role critical to the success of our teams and the products they build. You will be a best practice champion, understanding the importance of humility, clear vision, and direction in helping the data tribe thrive. You will also play a key role in delivery, helping teams ensure they ship on time with quality; maximising the value we get from technology through the choices we make. This role also has a major stake in our strategic decision making, helping direct the organisation towards the right technology goals but with a clear understanding of commercial considerations.
Specifically, this role is intended to work across teams, helping ensure we are making best use of our resources and technology and that choices and decisions made in this environment are the best and most reasonable that help us meet our bold ambitions in transforming the PokerStars business into a B2B poker product. You'll need to work with local leaders in the area and together define the best path for our technology and our teams.
Salary and benefits packages reflect the high standard across our team. We offer excellent training and development opportunities for all engineers, including dedicated L&D time every week. You will be self-motivated and willing to contribute at all levels, listening and learning from those around you. Culture is the foundation of our success and we want you to be a part of it and drive it.
Senior Principal Engineers are key technical decision makers and leaders, typically the pinnacle of capability in an organisation.
How you will do it:
- Provide overall technical leadership to our Data teams.
- Where necessary, support and develop the technical leaders in your area.
- Establish meaningful and effective relationships within and outside your area such that our tribe and organisational goals can be achieved.
- Establish and maintain a clear strategic vision and direction for our data technology teams.
- Be a disciplined custodian of the software design of our products.
- Support Data Architects in designing technical solutions.
- Advocate and evangelise engineering best practice.
Normally based in one of our main data engineering team locations, you'll enjoy being part of a strong team culture. You will be part of a global team.
We believe in providing the best career for everyone; your progression begins on the day we first meet. Career progression, staff engagement, and satisfaction are paramount to us. We want an environment where engineers can do their best work and be the best that they can be.
Our engineers work closely with colleagues in all positions, so communication and interpersonal skills are important for this role. Modern software engineering relies on iterative incremental development and fast feedback - we expect a good understanding of the mechanics of this, including a solid understanding of automation and its role in modern software delivery. Have experience of working in a modern agile environment (e.g. Scrum / Kanban). You will be comfortable working independently or collaboratively with good time and prioritisation skills.
