Overview
Join our Disruptive Innovation Team at Flutter as an Engineering Manager overseeing our cutting-edge Generative AI Research & Development initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will establish and drive agile project management practices and GenAI engineering best practices, ensuring the success of our "Innovation-as-a-Service" model that delivers experimental Generative AI projects to various teams across our organization. You will work closely with our talented team of engineers, nurturing their growth as they develop domain expertise in Generative AI technologies. Your leadership will be instrumental in managing this cross-functional talent academy, ensuring project success, and creating a structured environment where innovation can thrive.
The Generative AI R&D Team are deeply ingrained with the cutting-edge of Generative AI technology and how this field will evolve industries over the coming years. What You'll Do
- Strategic Project Management
- Establish and implement project & engineering management frameworks tailored to Generative AI R&D initiatives
- Create and manage project deliverables, timelines, and resource allocations for multiple concurrent projects
- Lead sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and other practices that you identify to be appropriate for GenAI R&D project development
- Identify and remove impediments to team progress
- Oversee the full lifecycle of AI projects with varied focus, with a range of goals from learning-driven experiments up to production-grade deployments
- Develop metrics and KPIs to measure project success and team performance
- Working closely with team leads, ensure strong iterative architectural planning
- Maintain and grow the existing culture of passion for the area and technical knowledge-sharing, both internally and across the organisation
- Team Leadership & Development
- Manage the team of graduate-level engineers working on cutting-edge Generative AI projects in partnership with other internal teams and functions
- Mentor and develop team members, aiding from an environment of continuous learning and growth
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between our team and other business units
- Work closely with the team managers and technical architecture planning to ensure technical feasibility and project alignment
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide development opportunities
- Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders who fund and benefit from our innovation projects
- Clearly communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Manage expectations and deliverables with sponsoring business units
- Create regular reports and presentations to demonstrate project learnings and value across the group
- Support the transition of successful proofs-of-concept to production-ready applications
- Thought Leadership
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in Generative AI, aided by the work of the team
- Work with other business functions to pave the way for unlocking value with Generative AI at Flutter, e.g., compliance, data protection, safer gaming, etc.
- Lead the conversation for enabling safe development and implementation of GenAI solutions and agentic systems
- Create processes for evaluating the commercial potential of prototype projects
What You'll Bring
- Essential Experience & Knowledge
- People management experience
- Minimum 2+ years of engineering management experience, preferably in technology or R&D environments
- Strong understanding of engineering best practices and methodologies and their application in emerging technology contexts
- Experience within cross-functional teams and managing stakeholder relationships
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Strong organisational abilities with experience managing multiple concurrent projects
- Self-starter mindset with business experience leading initiatives and narratives
- Experience with Cloud development (AWS, GCP, Azure…)
- Desirable Experience & Knowledge
- Experience with AI, machine learning, or data science projects
- Knowledge of the iGaming industry and its unique challenges
- Experience with organisational changes and transformative technology, ideally in a regulated environment such as the iGaming industry
- Experience managing and developing graduate-level talent or early-career professionals
- Interest or experience in innovation programs
- Familiarity with software development processes and tooling
