Overview And Purpose Of The Role

The purpose of this role is to increase Flusso's capacity to

  • Procure, assemble, test and despatch sensor product evaluation kits
  • Assemble sensor devices into test fixtures and execute test scripts
  • Assemble and test printed circuit boards
  • Keep equipment maintained and calibrated
  • Maintain lab stocks of small tools, consumables and components

Overview And Purpose Of The Role

The purpose of this role is to increase Flusso's capacity to

  • Procure, assemble, test and despatch sensor product evaluation kits
  • Assemble sensor devices into test fixtures and execute test scripts
  • Assemble and test printed circuit boards
  • Keep equipment maintained and calibrated
  • Maintain lab stocks of small tools, consumables and components

Responsibilities

Responsibilities are shared with other Electronics and Test Technicians.

General lab duties

  • Purchasing and maintenance of lab stocks (components, consumables, gas cylinders and small tools)
  • Maintenance and calibration of test equipment via service providers
  • Internal routine maintenance of test equipment
  • Creation of Standard Operating Procedures for lab processes
  • Fabrication of bespoke mechanical/fluidic fixtures using our in-house 3D printer

Electronics

  • Procurement of PCBs and component kits
  • Assembly of PCBs - manually, using Flusso's in-house reflow oven or subcontracted to service providers as appropriate
  • Testing assembled PCBs (and loading with firmware, if necessary)
  • PCB assembly repair

Sensor Testing

  • Optical inspection of sensor devices
  • Provide input to the development of electronic and fluidic test setups
  • Assembly of sensor modules into fluidic test fixtures and set-ups
  • Execution of test plans for
    • Sensor [module] characterisation
    • Low volume, in-house "production" testing of sensor components, modules and evaluation kits
    • Application solution validation
    • Checkpoint testing during device qualification
  • Execution of sensor [module] characterisation tests will involve
    • Taking units to be tested from storage and mounting into fixtures
    • Loading them with firmware to be tested, if necessary
    • Placing fixtures in the test chamber
    • Running test software on host PC's
    • Monitoring progress of tests (on screen)
    • Unloading and placing tested units back in storage

Customer samples and evaluation kits

  • Storage and inventory management of sensor samples and evaluation kit content/components
  • Testing, packing and despatch of sensor samples and evaluation kits

Requirements

Qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience

Ideal candidates will have skills and experience all, or at least most, of the responsibilities listed below.

Essential

  • HNC or higher degree in a relevant engineering or science subject
  • Experience of working in new product development (i.e., R&D environment)
  • Good working knowledge of electronics, test and measurement
  • Skilled and experienced in the use of test and measurement equipment
    • Bench power supplies
    • Meters and oscilloscopes
    • Environmental test chambers
  • Very skilled at manual soldering of surface mount components and use of bench-top IR reflow equipment
  • Very skilled at accurate assembly of complicated test set-ups involving mechanical mountings/fixtures, custom circuit boards, test equipment, electrical interconnect
  • Good documentation and administration skills
  • Knowledgeable about lab environmental and health and safety topics (regulations, good working practices, procedures etc.)

Would be an Advantage

  • Experienced in the use of fluidic test equipment
    • Mass flow and pressure controllers
    • Mass flow and pressure meters
  • Use of 3D printers for fabrication of designs created by Engineers
  • Use of a microscope for inspection of printed circuit boards and components
  • Handling and connecting to gas cylinders
  • Experience of working with sensors and custom silicon/MEMS devices
  • Knowledge of semiconductor / MEMS qualification
  • Experience of working in an ISO9001 environment
