About the Role

We are looking for an experienced CNC Machinist (Turning) to join our Machine Shop in Irlam on a permanent, full-time basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC Turner who is confident in programming, setting and operating CNC lathes and takes pride in producing high-quality precision components to demanding engineering specifications.

You will work with a range of modern CNC turning equipment, including Doosan machines with Fanuc controls, and will play a key role in delivering quality, efficiency and continuous improvement across the Machine Shop.

Key Responsibilities

Program, set and operate CNC turning machines.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T.
Read, understand and edit ISO CNC programs.
Set tools, offsets, work coordinates, compensation and machine parameters.
Select appropriate tooling and inserts to achieve required features, tolerances and surface finishes.
Set chucks, collets, tooling, attachments, stops, bushings and bar feeders.
Prove and validate CNC programs and produce first-off components.
Inspect components using appropriate measuring equipment and ensure products meet drawing specifications.
Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to tooling, offsets, speeds and feeds where required.
Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, tool wear and process problems.
Maintain consistently high standards of quality, accuracy and productivity.
Complete production and quality records, job cards, timesheets and SAP documentation.
Carry out routine machine maintenance and report faults or breakdowns.
Follow all company health & safety procedures and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.
Work closely with Production, Quality and Engineering teams.
Share knowledge and support the development of colleagues and apprentices.
Carry out other reasonable duties as required by the Production Manager.

What We're Looking ForEssential

Time-served CNC apprenticeship and a minimum of 3 years' relevant CNC turning experience.
Proven experience programming, setting and operating CNC lathes.
Ability to read, understand and edit ISO programs for CNC turning.
Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
Good technical engineering knowledge, including tooling and insert selection.
Strong problem-solving ability and a methodical approach to machining.
Excellent attention to detail.
Commitment to quality and achieving production requirements.
Good communication, organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

Experience with Fanuc controls.
Experience with Doosan Lynx and Puma machines.
Ability to program CNC controls from scratch.
Experience with live tooling and sub-spindles.
Experience working with PTFE or other specialist materials.
CMM experience.
HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience in continuous improvement and process optimisation.
Experience coaching or sharing technical knowledge with colleagues.

We're looking for someone who is technically strong, reliable, quality-focused and proactive.

You should be comfortable working from engineering drawings, setting machines accurately and solving machining problems independently. You will take ownership of your work and have the attention to detail required to consistently produce precision components to demanding standards.
