Overview

As Principal Estimator, you lead multidisciplinary teams to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates for FEED, proposals, and major capital projects. You will shape estimating strategies, manage plans and reviews, and mentor junior estimators while interfacing with senior leadership, clients, and project stakeholders. This role drives cost efficiency and decision-support in a global EPC context. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enable execution success and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary estimating teams for conceptual, FEED, and proposal estimates
  • Develop and execute estimating strategies aligned with project objectives and Fluor best practices
  • Prepare and manage Estimate Development Plans with milestones and responsibilities
  • Coordinate estimate planning across Engineering, Procurement, Contracts, Construction, and Project Controls
  • Mentor estimators and support professional development
  • Prepare detailed capital cost estimates for proposals, FEED studies, and complex projects
  • Develop Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation and manage reviews
  • Ensure estimate quality, consistency, and compliance with procedures and standards
  • Develop all classes of estimates per AACE International standards
  • Identify execution assumptions, risks, opportunities, and contingencies
  • Coordinate inputs from engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Collaborate with PM, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commercial teams
  • Interface with clients, contractors, and stakeholders on methods and strategies
  • Present estimate plans and recommendations to senior leadership and clients
  • Support proposal development and commercial evaluations
  • Assist in developing home-office and construction budgets
  • Develop Control Budgets for turnover to Project Controls
  • Support benchmarking, forecasting, escalation management, and productivity analysis
  • Champion continuous improvement of estimating databases, models, and costs
  • Promote estimating excellence and standardization across projects
  • Foster collaborative, growth-focused work environment

Key requirements

  • Minimum 10-15 years of estimating experience in the EPC industry
  • Significant experience in oil, gas, chemical, energy, or industrial sectors
  • Proven experience leading at least two FEED or proposal estimates with CAPEX > $500 million
  • Experience preparing and managing large-scale capital cost estimates
  • Experience leading multinational, geographically dispersed project teams
  • Strong understanding of direct and indirect project costs
  • Advanced knowledge of proposal and FEED estimating and project execution planning
  • Knowledge of estimate methodologies, benchmarking, contingency, and risk assessment
  • Working knowledge of project controls, cost engineering, procurement, and construction practices
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts and proposal requirements
  • Excellent English communication, written and verbal; strong presentation skills
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior estimators
