Job Description
Join Fluence and play a key role in keeping some of the world's most advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems connected, secure, and performing at their best.
As a SCADA Network Engineer, you will be at the heart of the operational lifecycle, supporting critical infrastructure that enables the energy transition.
You will combine expertise in SCADA, networking, cybersecurity, and system integration to deliver reliable, high-performing solutions for customers across the EMEA region.
What You'll Do
- Lead the realization of project-specific requirements related to SCADA, monitoring, networking, cybersecurity, system architecture, and equipment integration for operational Battery Energy Storage Systems.
- Support the integration of Fluence control systems with Transmission System Operator (TSO) and customer SCADA environments, ensuring seamless communication, monitoring, and compliance with technical requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and improve core system documentation, including network architectures, signal lists, communication diagrams, hardware inventories, and backup and recovery strategies.
- Collaborate closely with Field Service Engineers to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and implement effective solutions across SCADA and network environments.
- Support testing activities associated with upgrades, modifications, and change orders, including the development and execution of validation procedures.
- Participate in hands-on laboratory testing and evaluation of new technologies, prototypes, and system enhancements.
- Act as a technical interface for customers, partners, and subcontractors, providing expertise on SCADA, networking, and compliance requirements throughout the service phase.
- Monitor system performance, investigate network and communication issues, and utilize diagnostic tools to identify, resolve, and elevate issues when necessary.
- Conduct and support root cause analyses to improve system reliability, availability, and long-term performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, documentation, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure accurate change management practices and maintain comprehensive technical records.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry standards, and cybersecurity best practices to help Fluence maintain world-class operational support capabilities.
- Provide technical reporting, operational insights, and performance recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Support the development and tracking of key operational performance metrics.
- Contribute to company safety initiatives and support a strong safety culture.
- Travel across the EMEA region as required to support customers and operational activities.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in SCADA, Operational Technology (OT), industrial networking, power generation, utilities, or a related industry.
- Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, TCP/IP, OPC, and related technologies.
- Strong understanding of SCADA systems, RTUs, PLCs, relays, gateways, data concentrators, and industrial communication infrastructure.
- Knowledge of network architecture, OSI layers, routing, switching, firewalls, VPN technologies, and industrial Ethernet environments.
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems, scripting languages such as Python or Bash, and version control tools such as Git Hub.
- Understanding of industrial control equipment, including inverters, transformers, controllers, telecommunications equipment, and I/O systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex system and network issues.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to prioritize work effectively and operate within a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is considered an advantage.
- Fluent in English; additional European language skills are a plus.
