Responsibilities
- Lead and drive the project team in the realization of project-specific requirements related to BESS control systems, ensuring alignment with technical specifications and standards.
- Collaborate closely with field engineers to identify, analyse, and resolve controls-related issues arising during commissioning, testing, and throughout the service phase of BESS installations.
- Act as the primary interface with clients and subcontractors on all controls-related topics, supporting controls compliance during project execution and leading grid code compliance testing activities for the sites in the EMEA region.
- Perform planned system-level testing, including laboratory testing during system FAT, to validate control functionality and performance before deploying on site.
- Plan and execute scheduled software and firmware upgrades for BESS systems in service, ensuring minimal operational downtime and risk through controlled deployment and rollback strategies.
- Enforce strict change management processes, ensuring all control system modifications are properly reviewed, approved, documented, and traceable.
- Keep current with all Company products, developments, and projects as they apply to the Controls network at both site and enterprise levels.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% annually across the EMEA region.
Required Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in computer / industrial engineering with focus on automation and controls (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant Controls/Software/programming experience with a power utility or related industry and the design, operation and maintenance of a power plant.
- Extensive knowledge in the electricity transmission/distribution sector and EMS systems: Grid code and requirements analysis, development and testing of algorithms for Grid services applications.
- Extensive knowledge in SCADA protocols: IEC60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850 MMS, DNP3, Modbus & TCP/IP, PLC, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), SEL Real Time Automation Controller (RTAC), SEL Relays & Meters, Siemens Relays & Meters & SCADA Gateways & Data Concentrators.
- Experience in Linux based systems and commands.
- High-level programming languages such as Python and shell/bash scripting.
- Experience with GitHub.
- Experience in MathWorks Simulink for model-based systems engineering, C/C++.
- Experience on the design, operation and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment including but not limited to inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecommunications, and controllers.
- Taking ownership and solution-oriented mindset.
- Good communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- German / other language skills desired.
