The Project Engineer coordinates and manages all engineering activities across assigned energy storage or renewable energy projects within the EMEA region. This role oversees internal engineering disciplines as well as external partners to ensure designs are technically sound, compliant with contractual obligations, and optimized for constructability and cost. The Project Engineer supports project execution from early design phases through delivery, maintains alignment with ISO 9001 quality standards, and drives continuous improvement across engineering and project management processes. Travel throughout the EMEA region will be required.
Key Responsibilities- Manage external engineering firms, subcontractors, and internal engineering teams (civil, electrical, network, permitting) to deliver project milestones on time, within budget, and to the required quality.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables meet contractual requirements, are constructible, and reflect country-specific or regional technical considerations that may impact design or cost.
- Lead internal and external design review meetings and verify compliance with Fluence’s ISO 9001 quality management standards.
- Promote a culture of value engineering and encourage innovative, best-in-class design and construction approaches.
- Support Project Procurement by preparing construction and electrical equipment specifications, and by conducting technical evaluations of vendor and subcontractor proposals.
- Review internal and subcontractor designs to ensure alignment with project requirements and contractual obligations.
- Take full engineering responsibility for assigned "Core Only" projects or EPC scopes up to the medium-voltage (MV) connection.
- Manage escalations and resolve technical issues across assigned projects.
- Execute projects in alignment with Fluence’s safety KPIs and contribute to the improvement of internal processes and cross-functional structures.
- Travel up to 15% across the EMEA region as needed to support project execution.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in designing power systems for utility installations, PV plants, or battery energy storage systems within the EMEA region.
- Strong knowledge of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) processes for high-voltage systems, wind, solar, or conventional power generation.
- Familiarity with relevant EMEA engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Solution-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in coordinating complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English.
- Demonstrated capability in crisis management.
- Effective management of high-pressure or rapidly changing situations.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to act quickly and confidently.
- Excellent prioritization skills, particularly in dynamic or complex environments.
- Proficiency in additional languages (German, Spanish, or Polish) is considered an asset.
