At FLOX, we believe smarter farms lead to thriving chickens and healthier lives. Our mission is simple: healthier chickens benefit everyone. That’s why we built FLOX360, a system that uses Computer Vision, smart sensors, and real-time insights to transform poultry farming. By helping farmers improve welfare and efficiency, FLOX360 creates a win-win for birds, farmers, the environment, and people everywhere. Today, we’re watching 60 million chickens a year. We believe we are setting the standard for animal welfare and smart farming - and we’re just getting started.
We are seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to play a key individual-contributor role in shaping and scaling FLOX’s data platform, based in London with hybrid working. This is a senior IC position, reporting to our engineering director with high technical ownership and autonomy, responsible for designing, building, and operating the core data systems that power FLOX’s AI and analytics products. You will work closely with platform engineers, CV/ML engineers influencing platform architecture and engineering standards. We are looking for someone experienced in analytics-heavy or complex data domains who is motivated to turn raw, multimodal data into trusted, decision-ready intelligence for customers, at speed and scale.
This role is central to FLOX’s mission of converting data into actionable intelligence and has a direct impact on how our platform supports customer decision-making as the company scales towards a Series A milestone and beyond.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build, and operate the core data platform that reliably transforms high-volume farm data into decision-ready datasets powering FLOX’s AI and analytics products.
- Build and maintain scalable, highly available data pipelines and services with strong data quality, observability, and operational reliability.
- Design and optimise batch and streaming data pipelines across cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, or similar), balancing performance, cost, and long-term maintainability.
- Model biological, environmental, and operational farm data using practical animal-science and farming context to enrich raw data and materially improve the accuracy and explainability of FLOX’s AI products.
- Influence platform architecture and engineering standards through hands-on technical leadership, design reviews, and close collaboration with product and engineering leadership.
- Multimodal data sources including computer vision outputs, IoT sensors, and operational/customer datasets.
- Terabyte-scale data processing across cloud and edge environments.
- Cloud data platforms and warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, or similar).
- Python for data pipelines, platform tooling, and data services.
- Batch and streaming data processing (e.g. Kafka or equivalent).
- Relational and NoSQL data stores (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
- Containerised environments using Docker and Kubernetes (AWS-managed).
- Monitoring and observability tooling (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
- CI/CD and infrastructure tooling used across the wider platform.
- AWS as the primary cloud environment, with exposure to multi-cloud setups where relevant.
We would love to meet you if you have all or some of these requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in data platform engineering roles within analytics-heavy, fast-paced tech/product companies.
- Experience in big data and analytics heavy application development is highly preferred, demonstrating a clear understanding of applied data challenges to solve real world problems.
- Proven track record of working effectively within integrated product teams composed of ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Platform Engineers, and Application Engineers.
- Deep expertise in Snowflake or similar architecture and management.
- Experience modelling complex domains (e.g. biological, operational, or graph-structured data), with exposure to knowledge graphs or similar representations.
- A willingness to go above and beyond, bringing a highly proactive, product-focused mindset aimed at delivering engineering excellence and tangible business transformation.
- Prior experience in a start-up or scale-up environment is essential. Ability to navigate ambiguous and uncertain scenarios to make key decisions.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills - comfortable working across technical and operational teams.
- Able to travel to our E8 London HQ approximately twice per week.
- (Desirable) Experience with multimodal data engineering and building customer facing data products.
- Up to £90k p.a. depending on experience and location.
- Hybrid working, in the office twice a week with flexibility.
