Flowtech Fluidpower plc is looking for an exceptional Head of Project Design to join our expanding Global Projects Team. This is a rare opportunity to lead the design and engineering governance of high-profile, technically complex MEICA and hydraulic projects that make a real difference. Recent projects have included the Narrow Water Bridge, the landmark cross-border infrastructure project connecting the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, alongside other major engineering and industrial projects across the UK and internationally.
Based from our Pontefract office with the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering innovative engineering solutions from concept through to commissioning.
The Role
Reporting to the Major Projects Director, you will provide strategic technical leadership across a portfolio of major projects, leading multidisciplinary teams covering:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Instrumentation & Control
- Automation
- Hydraulic Systems (MEICA)
You'll oversee engineering excellence, technical governance, design assurance and project delivery, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on budget and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the MEICA design strategy across major engineering projects.
- Manage multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
- Drive technical excellence, innovation and engineering best practice.
- Review and approve complex engineering and hydraulic system designs.
- Work closely with clients, contractors and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead design assurance, risk management and technical governance.
- Support tendering, feasibility studies, procurement and commissioning activities.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team.
About You
We're looking for an experienced engineering leader who has:
- Significant experience leading major engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of MEICA engineering and hydraulic systems.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
- A degree in Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, engineering standards and design assurance processes.
- Experience within sectors such as infrastructure, bridges, water, industrial automation, manufacturing, fluid power or other safety-critical engineering environments would be highly advantageous.
