Role Purpose: Responsible for providing quality services by taking overall responsibility for site whilst managing people and resources to ensure high quality standards of care and service are delivered to regulatory, contractual and company standards. Ensure young people receive excellent levels of emotional and physical care, within a home that offers a safe, nurturing and comfortable environment with a staff team that is supportive and enabling, providing opportunities and experiences to instil positive values and reaffirm the importance of children enjoying a childhood.
To lead and manage both employees and resources to ensure high standards of service are achieved within the home, exceeding regulatory standards. To carry out the above whilst demonstrating our core values: Care, Support & Development. The successful candidate will manage a three-bedroom children’s home, with 2 children aged between 7-17 years old.
Principle Accountabilities:
- A strong commitment to the safeguarding, including Health & Safety, for all young people and staff in the services.
- A strong commitment to safe and appropriate recruitment to meet the needs of the young people and service.
- Ensures sufficient and appropriate levels and mix of staff are recruited and rostered in accordance with service user requirements at all times.
- Ensure staff are inducted, trained, motivated and supported to achieve company standards and deliver the highest levels of care.
- Providing and ensuring a high quality service, and experience of care, to the young people.
- Ensure that all data is maintained to a high standard in a timely manner. Implement appropriate systems to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Ensure that all quality standards are adhered to.
- Ensure that the care, education, and well-being of the young people is maintained at the highest level at all times.
- Arrange admissions of young people to the home along with the Responsible Individual, in line with Company policy and procedure.
- Ensure that all transitions for young people are well planned and communicated.
- Encourage communication and interaction within the home in order to broaden life and stimulate interests.
- Ensure that all young people receive appropriate medical, dental and other ancillary care in line with care plans.
- Encourage, stimulate and participate in social activities for the benefit of the young people.
- Meet with Social Workers to develop, review and act upon individual care plans.
- Liaison with young person’s family as appropriate.
- Ensure that all employees within the home understand their role, so that they are able to undertake their duties and responsibilities to a consistently high standard in the normal course of their duties.
- Comply with all statutory/legislative requirements.
- Comply with the Company’s policies and procedures and all other relevant supplementary instructions.
- Liaise with and co-operate at all times with relevant Local Authority employees and other professionals, meeting their requirements as appropriate.
- Prepare detailed reports for Statutory and Case Reviews to a consistently high standard.
- Meet legislative and Company Health and Safety standards.
- Implement quality assurance practices to monitor and evaluate standards of the individual and of the team performance, to support the company to achieve its objective to continuously improve upon quality.
- Work closely with the Business Director to manage the designated budget, ensuring value for money is achieved.
- Take control of all of the home’s spending.
- Monitor the young person’s spending of their allowances.
- Authorise and monitor items purchased for the home.
- Maintain a positive working environment.
- Recruit high calibre employees that demonstrate our values and behaviours and deliver consistently high quality services.
- Robust performance management, including supervision and appraisals.
Reporting Relationships: Reporting into the Responsible Individual.
Essential Competencies:
- Previous Residential Care Management experience working with Young People.
- Working knowledge of the statutory requirements associated with the residential care of young people. This will include Children’s Homes Regulations, Health and Safety legislation etc.
- A management qualification of at least equivalent to Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social care for Children and Young people. The role holder must have completed the full registration process and declared fit by OFSTED for each assignment to a home.
- Proven people management skills within a residential setting, including motivating, directing, delegating.
- Proven organisational and financial management skills.
- Well established stakeholder relationships with a proven track record of running successful children’s residential care services and influencing change.
- A strong background of successful residential children’s home management is essential, preferably with knowledge of Ofsted requirements, working in challenging environments and leading excellence in care.
- Turnaround experience in children’s homes and a successful problem solver.
- Understanding and experience of working with young people with Emotional and/or Behavioural difficulties.
