We are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEN school based in the Sutton Coldfield area supporting children with complex and multiple needs, including SLD, PMLD, ASD, and additional sensory and behavioural needs who are aged from 2 up to 11. The school provides a caring, safe, and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to reach their full potential through a highly personalised and adapted curriculum, including sensory and experiential learning opportunities. Classes are small, typically with 10–12 pupils, allowing for tailored support and strong staff‑pupil relationships.
We are looking for patient, dedicated, and nurturing Teaching Assistants to support pupils both inside and outside the classroom with learning, communication, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour. You will work closely with teachers and wider staff to help create an engaging and inclusive environment where all learners can thrive. THE SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT ROLE- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with SLD and PMLD.
- Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes.
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals.
- Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
- Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required.
- Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners.
- SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor.
- Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school.
- Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with ASD, SLD and PMLD.
- Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach.
- Excellent behaviour management strategies.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential.
