We are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEN school in the Erdington area. The school supports pupils aged 4-16, all of whom have a diagnosis of Autism (ASD), alongside complex communication, learning and behavioural needs. The setting provides a safe, structured and nurturing environment focused on supporting both the educational and social development of every pupil.
We are looking for experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a supportive team. In this role, you will work across primary and secondary age groups, supporting pupils with Autism and associated complex needs both inside and outside of the classroom. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support the class teacher in delivering a tailored curriculum designed around pupils’ individual learning and communication needs. You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, structured routines, and independence, helping pupils engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with ASD, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
- Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
- Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles: SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor. Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school is essential. A strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD and MLD is required. An empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach, along with excellent behaviour management strategies, is necessary. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) is also required. Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential.
