Are you an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding full-time opportunity? A welcoming and supportive First School in Alvechurch is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September on a long‑term basis. This is a full‑time position, working within the school's specialist SEN provision, supporting pupils from Year 2 to Year 4 with a range of complex additional needs. The role is ideal for a passionate SEND Teaching Assistant who enjoys supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential. Working within the school's specialist provision, you will help create a nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environment where every pupil feels safe, supported, and encouraged to develop both academically and personally. The SEN provision caters for pupils across Year 2 to Year 4 with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASD), communication and interaction needs, sensory needs, and moderate learning difficulties. The school is looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and committed to providing consistent support while working closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team.
Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with a range of complex additional needs within the school's SEN provision.
- Working alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activities.
- Providing individual and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum.
- Supporting pupils' communication, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Implementing individual support plans and following guidance from the SENCO and external professionals.
- Adapting learning resources and activities to meet pupils' individual needs.
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging independence wherever possible.
- Supporting pupils with sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
- Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children with SEND within a school or specialist setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASD) and other complex additional needs is desirable.
- A relevant Teaching Assistant, Childcare, or SEND qualification is desirable.
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A flexible, reliable, and professional attitude.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to use initiative.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
