A welcoming and supportive School in Redditch is seeking a Nursery Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Nursery child with autism and challenging behaviours.

This part‑time role is working within the school’s Early Years setting and offers the opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s development within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

This opportunity would suit a patient, resilient, and caring Nursery Assistant who has previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism.

The school is looking for someone who can build positive relationships, remain calm under pressure, and work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support the child’s individual needs.

As a Nursery Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the child to access learning, develop social skills, and regulate behaviour.

You will play an important role in creating a safe, structured, and positive environment that supports the child’s emotional and educational development.

As a Nursery Assistant, your responsibilities will include

  • Providing 1:1 support for a Nursery child with autism and challenging behaviours.
  • Supporting the child with communication, emotional regulation, and engagement in activities.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies and routines.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging social interaction.
  • Supporting the child during classroom activities, transitions, and play-based learning.
  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to staff and parents where appropriate.

To be successful in this Nursery Assistant role, you will need

  • A relevant Early Years qualification.
  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism.
  • Experience supporting children with challenging behaviours.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude.
