Are you a dedicated and experienced KS2 Teacherwith previous experience supporting pupils with complex SEMH needs?

A specialist SEMH school in Hereford is seeking a confident and experienced Year 6 Teacher to join their team from September on a long-term basis.

This is a part-time role working afternoons only, Monday to Friday, with the school also open to candidates looking to work 3 or 4 afternoons per week.

This role is ideal for an experienced teacher who has previously worked with pupils with complex SEMH needs and can confidently manage challenging behaviour while creating a calm, consistent, and nurturing learning environment.

The Year 6 class consists of 8 pupils with a range of additional and complex needs, with classroom support staff also based within the class.

The successful candidate will work closely with the support team to plan and deliver engaging learning, adapt teaching to meet individual needs, and support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.

As a Year 6 Teacher, you will take responsibility for delivering high-quality lessons, maintaining positive relationships with pupils, and working collaboratively with the wider school team to ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and able to achieve their potential.

As a Year 6 Teacher, your responsibilities will include

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons appropriate to Year 6 pupils and their individual needs.
  • Adapting and differentiating learning to support pupils with complex SEMH needs.
  • Creating a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Working closely with classroom support staff to ensure consistent approaches to learning and behaviour.
  • Managing challenging behaviour confidently using appropriate strategies and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with pupils and supporting their emotional wellbeing.
  • Assessing and monitoring pupil progress and adapting teaching accordingly.
  • Supporting pupils' social development, confidence, independence, and readiness for their next stage of education.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider school team and contributing to individual support plans where required.

To be successful in this Year 6 Teacher role, you will need

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Previous experience teaching within Key Stage Two, ideally Year 6.
  • Previous experience working within an SEMH, SEN, specialist, or similar setting.
  • Strong experience supporting pupils with complex SEMH needs.
  • Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour.
  • A strong understanding of how SEMH needs can impact learning and behaviour.
  • The ability to adapt lessons and teaching approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
  • A patient, resilient, flexible, and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The confidence to work effectively alongside classroom support staff.
