As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to support the learning, development, and wellbeing of pupils aged 4 to 19. The school caters for learners with a range of complex needs, including complex learning difficulties, complex communication difficulties, low levels of cognition and learning, and complex autism. Your role will involve helping them engage in structured routines, supporting their communication, regulating emotions, and encouraging positive learning behaviours. You will provide individualised support both in and out of the classroom to ensure each young person can learn and progress at a pace that suits their needs.

If you're looking for a role where every day is rewarding, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND including SEMH, MLD, SLD, and PMLD
  • Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
  • Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles: SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor.

Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school is preferred. A strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) is essential. An empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach, along with excellent behaviour management strategies, is required.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) is necessary. Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential.
