Flourish Education are currently recruiting for a Sports Coach / Behaviour Mentor to work within secondary schools across Northfield and the surrounding areas. We are looking for enthusiastic, confident individuals with a passion for working with young people and supporting pupils to engage positively with education.
Are you a Sports Coach looking to gain valuable experience within a secondary school? Perhaps you have a background in sports coaching, youth work, mentoring or working with young people and are looking for a new opportunity. You may have experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, SEMH or additional needs, although previous behaviour experience is desirable rather than essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident, patient and able to build positive relationships with young people. You will use your communication, teamwork and coaching skills to help pupils remain engaged, develop their confidence and make positive choices throughout the school day.
The role may involve supporting pupils in lessons, working with individuals or small groups, helping pupils who are struggling with behaviour or engagement, and providing additional support across the school.
With flexible, part-time and longer-term opportunities available, this role could be ideal for Sports Coaches, Sports Graduates, Youth Workers, Activity Leaders, Teaching Assistants or anyone with experience working with young people who is looking to develop their career within education.
The role will involve:
- Supporting pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Building positive and professional relationships with young people
- Supporting pupils with behaviour and engagement
- Helping pupils manage their emotions and make positive choices
- Encouraging pupils to participate in learning and school activities
- Supporting pupils on a one-to-one or small-group basis
- Using sport and physical activity to engage and motivate pupils where appropriate
- Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
- Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem
- Encouraging positive communication and teamwork
- Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs
- Helping to maintain a calm, structured and positive learning environment
- Working alongside teachers and wider school staff
- Providing encouragement and positive reinforcement
- Supporting pupils who may find mainstream classroom environments challenging
- Potentially supporting with whole-class cover where required
Required Skills and Experience for this Sports Coach / Behaviour Mentor role:
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Sports coaching, youth work, mentoring or similar experience is welcomed
- Previous experience supporting behaviour is desirable but not essential
- Confident and positive approach when working with young people
- Ability to build strong and positive relationships with pupils
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, calm and resilient approach
- Ability to remain professional when managing challenging situations
- Ability to motivate and engage young people
- Strong teamwork skills
- Reliable and professional approach
- A genuine interest in supporting young people
- Willingness to learn and develop within a school environment
- A relevant sports qualification or degree is desirable but not essential
Working for Flourish Education as a Sports Coach / Behaviour Mentor, you will receive:
- £92.59 to £100 per day, which equates to approximately £17,340 to £19,500 per annum based on working 5 days a week for a full school year

Depending on the location of the school, opportunities may also be accessible from nearby parts of Birmingham and Worcestershire.
This could be an ideal opportunity for a Sports Coach, Sports Graduate, Youth Worker, Activity Leader, Teaching Assistant or someone with experience working with young people who is looking to move into education. Previous behaviour experience would be advantageous, but training and support can be provided for the right candidate.
