Flourish Education are currently recruiting Behaviour Mentors to work within secondary schools across South Birmingham and the surrounding areas.


Are you a confident, resilient and supportive individual who enjoys working with young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning? Perhaps you have experience in education, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, social care or another role where you have supported young people with their behaviour and development.


We are looking for enthusiastic Behaviour Mentors to support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. The role will involve building positive relationships with pupils, supporting students with behavioural and emotional needs, and helping them to re-engage with education.


This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has strong behaviour management skills, remains calm under pressure and is passionate about helping young people make positive choices. Previous experience working in a school is desirable, but experience in youth work, mentoring, coaching or similar settings will also be considered.


The role will involve:



  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils

  • Supporting pupils with behavioural, social and emotional needs

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people

  • Supporting pupils to improve their behaviour and engagement

  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning

  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom

  • Promoting positive behaviour and setting clear expectations

  • Acting as a positive role model for pupils

  • Supporting pupils to develop confidence and resilience

  • Helping pupils to re-engage with their learning

  • Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team

  • Supporting behaviour and pastoral interventions

  • Helping pupils make positive choices

  • Managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner

  • Providing encouragement and motivation to pupils

  • Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to reviews where appropriate


Required Skills and Experience for this Behaviour Mentor role:



  • Experience working with children or young people

  • Experience supporting behaviour is desirable

  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, social care or a similar setting is desirable

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • Ability to remain calm and resilient when dealing with challenging situations

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people

  • Patient, supportive and consistent approach

  • Ability to motivate and encourage pupils

  • Confident working with pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis

  • Professional and reliable approach

  • Passion for supporting young people to succeed

  • Previous secondary school experience is desirable

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs is desirable


Working for Flourish Education as a Behaviour Mentor, you will receive:



  • £100 to £110 per day, depending on experience. Which equates to £19,500 - £21,450 per annum.

  • Full-time and longer-term opportunities available

This Behaviour Mentor opportunity is based across South Birmingham and the surrounding areas, with a range of longer-term opportunities available within secondary schools.


The role is easily commutable from Bournville, Selly Oak, Kings Heath, Kings Norton, Northfield, Harborne, Edgbaston, Stirchley, Moseley, Rubery, Longbridge and surrounding areas.


Depending on the location of the school, opportunities may also be accessible from nearby areas of Worcestershire and the wider Birmingham area.
