Are you an experienced SEND professional looking for a rewarding leadership support role within a supportive and inclusive primary school environment?

A welcoming and nurturing Primary School in Oldbury is seeking a dedicated and proactive Assistant SENco to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September 2026 until July 2027 initially, with the potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about supporting children with SEND. You will work closely alongside the Assistant Deputy Headteacher, who is also the school's SENco, supporting the strategic and day-to-day management of SEND provision across the school.

This is a non-class-based role, based in the school's SEND hub, allowing you to focus on supporting staff and pupils, monitoring provision, carrying out observations, providing feedback and guidance, and helping to ensure that all children receive the support they need to thrive. The role will also involve leading targeted interventions and contributing to the development of inclusive practice throughout the school.

As an Assistant SENco, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Assistant Deputy Headteacher/SENco with the coordination and delivery of SEND provision across the school
  • Working closely with teaching staff to support the implementation of effective strategies for pupils with SEND
  • Conducting observations within classrooms and providing constructive feedback and direction to staff
  • Monitoring pupil progress and supporting the identification of additional needs
  • Leading targeted intervention programmes to support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development
  • Supporting the creation and review of SEND documentation, records, and provision maps
  • Liaising with staff, parents, and external agencies where appropriate
  • Promoting an inclusive learning environment that enables all pupils to achieve their full potential
  • Supporting safeguarding and wellbeing procedures in line with school policies
  • Contributing to the school's wider inclusion and SEND strategy

To be successful in this Assistant SENco role, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a HLTA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Previous SEND experience is essential
  • A strong understanding of SEND legislation, provision, and best practice
  • Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs
  • The ability to provide professional guidance and support to teaching staff
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and external professionals
  • A genuine passion for inclusion and supporting children to achieve positive outcomes

Working as an Assistant SENco in this role, you will receive:

  • Competitive Salary – Β£130 to Β£160 per day, based on experience

This Assistant SENco role is based in Oldbury and is easily accessible from West Bromwich, Smethwick, Tipton, Dudley, Rowley Regis, Halesowen, and surrounding areas.
