Most sustainability software companies offer a platform. Most consultancies offer advice. Flotilla does both. That combination is what makes this role genuinely different. We’re looking for a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our consultancy team: someone who can own client relationships from day one, lead on carbon accounting and ESG advisory, and help shape how we deliver across a growing portfolio that includes some of the UK’s most active private equity investors.
THE ROLE
You’ll be a senior member of Flotilla’s consultancy team, reporting to our Director of Sustainability and working across a portfolio of clients that spans private equity-backed businesses, investment funds, and larger corporates. From day one, you’ll carry your own accounts - leading on carbon footprinting, regulatory reporting, and sustainability strategy - while also actively contributing to winning new business. Success in the first 12 months looks like: a client portfolio you own and are proud of, new accounts you’ve helped bring in, and a clear personal development and progression plan.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Own and manage a portfolio of client accounts, acting as the primary relationship holder across carbon reporting, net zero strategy, and broader ESG advisory.
- Drive business development: identifying prospects, contributing to pitches and proposals, attending events, and converting opportunities, with uncapped commission on what you win.
- Lead the delivery of GHG emissions assessments (Scopes 1, 2 and 3), SECR submissions, workshops, and CSRD/ISSB-aligned disclosures for clients across sectors.
- Advise private equity clients and their portfolio companies on ESG data collection, performance monitoring, and investor-ready reporting.
- Work closely with Flotilla’s technology team to configure and improve our ESG platform for client use. You’ll be as comfortable in a platform workflow as you are in a client meeting.
- Identify and pursue expansion opportunities within your existing client base, deepening relationships and broadening the scope of Flotilla’s work.
- Mentor junior consultants and carbon accountants and, if you have the appetite and experience, take on direct line management responsibility from the outset.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential
- At least 4 years of sustainability or ESG consultancy experience, with strong technical grounding in corporate carbon accounting and GHG reporting.
- Demonstrable experience working with or within private markets, particularly private equity firms or their portfolio companies.
- Comfortable owning client relationships independently: running meetings, facilitating workshops, managing expectations, and delivering to tight deadlines.
- A genuine commercial instinct. Someone who enjoys finding and winning new business, not just delivering it.
- Working knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks (SECR, ESOS, TCFD) and an appetite to develop broader ESG advisory capability.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and carbon modelling, and PowerPoint for client-facing reporting and presentations.
Nice to have
- Experience advising on CSRD, SFDR or ISSB-aligned reporting.
- Familiarity with ESG data management platforms or carbon accounting software.
- Experience line managing or mentoring junior consultants.
- Exposure to SBTi target-setting or science-based net zero pathway work.
- Practical experience using AI tools to streamline sustainability workflows.
- Hands-on experience running supply chain engagement programmes.
WHAT YOU’LL GET
- Base salary: circa £50,000, depending on experience.
- Uncapped commission on new business you originate. Typically 3–6% of first-year contract value, with no ceiling on volume.
- Hybrid working: 3 days in office, 2 days from home, based from London (Bank), Manchester or Harrogate.
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and an additional day for your birthday.
- A genuine progression route. The chance to work at a company where your technical expertise shapes the product, not just the deliverables.
