Sembcorp Energy UK is in the middle of a significant infrastructure investment programme. If you want your legal work to have real-world consequences — not just for the business, but for the UK’s energy system — this is worth reading. We’re a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, one of the world’s leading energy and urban solutions businesses, with 25.3GW of energy capacity across 11 countries. In the UK, we operate energy generation and battery storage assets of over 1.3GW, supporting the national grid and the country’s transition to Net Zero. Our Wilton International site sits within the Teesside Freeport, at the centre of one of the UK’s most active decarbonisation clusters.
Legal is involved from the outset. You’ll work as a genuine business partner to senior stakeholders across functions including Commercial, Projects, Trading, Operations, Regulatory and Finance — helping them navigate risk, structure key projects and make confident commercial decisions before they’re made, not after. Your input will be tangible and traceable in how projects are shaped, delivered and governed.
The legal scope is broad: major infrastructure contracts, M&A and joint ventures, energy trading and optimisation, regulatory compliance, litigation management, and external counsel oversight. Compliance — anti-bribery and corruption, money laundering, data protection — sits within the legal team’s remit, adding genuine accountability to the role. You’ll also collaborate with our legal team in Singapore on matters that arise from the parent company’s international operations.
We’re looking for a qualified solicitor with a strong commercial and corporate foundation. Energy sector or heavily regulated industry experience is a real advantage — the regulatory environment here has genuine complexity, and you’ll be expected to advise across it with good business judgment. This role will suit a lawyer who enjoys breadth, responsibility and being trusted to make a difference.
