About the Role

Are you an experienced finance professional with strong management accounting and analytical skills? Nightingale Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant to join our Finance Department. The post holder will provide accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making. You will contribute to monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and cost control, while ensuring robust financial controls and compliance are maintained. Working closely with clinical, operational and senior leadership teams, you will provide clear financial insight, support informed decision-making and identify opportunities to improve financial performance and efficiency.

Who We're Looking For

  • You will be an experienced Management Accountant with a strong background in management accounting, financial reporting and budgeting.
  • You will be part-qualified or fully qualified, or working towards an appropriate accounting qualification.
  • You will have strong analytical, financial modelling and Excel skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • You will be confident preparing management accounts, analysing financial performance and explaining budget variances.
  • You will be able to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
  • You will have a proactive and commercially focused approach to identifying financial risks and opportunities.
  • Above all, you will be professional, collaborative and committed to maintaining high standards of financial integrity and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
  • Experience in management accounting, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of month-end processes, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and experience using finance systems.
  • Ability to analyse financial performance and provide meaningful variance analysis.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet reporting deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and attention to detail.

Strongly desirable qualities include:

  • Experience working within healthcare, private hospitals, mental health services or social care.
  • Knowledge of healthcare funding models and cost improvement programmes.
  • Experience with ERP or financial reporting systems.
  • Experience analysing service profitability, occupancy, revenue and operational costs.
  • Experience supporting business cases, investments or service improvement initiatives.
  • Experience developing financial dashboards and KPIs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support the production of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheets and cash flow reports.
  • Post month-end journals and complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyse financial performance, investigate variances and provide clear financial insight.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting and monitoring of departmental expenditure.
  • Identify financial risks, cost-saving opportunities and areas for improved efficiency.
  • Provide financial analysis and modelling to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Work closely with clinical and operational managers to improve financial understanding.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with financial policies and controls.
  • Contribute to improvements in finance systems, reporting processes and data quality.
