About the Role
Are you an experienced Addiction Counsellor with a passion for innovative, evidence-based treatments for individuals with addiction and related conditions? Mews House has an exciting opportunity for an Addiction Counsellor to join our residential treatment service. The post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality, client-centred care for individuals with substance misuse and addictive behaviours. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, ensuring safe clinical practice, adherence to treatment approaches and a compassionate therapeutic experience. You will also contribute to service development and clinical governance.
Who We're Looking For
- You will be an experienced Addiction Counsellor with a strong background in addiction treatment services.
- You will have significant experience within residential, secondary or structured treatment settings.
- You will have a strong understanding of addiction, relapse prevention and related psychological conditions.
- You will be confident in delivering group therapy, individual therapy and psychoeducational workshops.
- You will be confident in delivering care that requires close therapeutic engagement and risk awareness.
- You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including external stakeholders.
- You will actively participate in care planning discussions and ensure care plans are reviewed, updated and actioned.
- You will provide effective liaison with families and deliver conjoint sessions where required.
- Above all, you will be compassionate, resilient and dedicated to supporting clients through recovery pathways.
Requirements
The following skills and qualifications are essential:
- Relevant qualification in counselling, psychotherapy or addiction treatment.
- Strong knowledge of addiction models and recovery frameworks.
- Evidence of significant post-qualification clinical experience.
- Experience facilitating group therapy and delivering individual counselling.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal and risk management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current practice and addiction-related issues.
- Awareness of clinical governance and safe practice standards.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Computer literacy and accurate clinical documentation.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rota.
Strongly desirable qualities include:
- Experience working within a residential or secondary treatment service.
- Experience delivering family work, including conjoint sessions.
- Evidence of involvement in service development, audit or clinical governance.
- A strong interest in ongoing professional development and/or private practice.
