The Role
We are seeking dedicated and experienced Team Leader to join our residential childcare team. This is a key leadership role, supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in the day-to-day running of the home and ensuring outstanding care for children and young people. In the absence of the Registered Manager or Deputy, you will take responsibility for the effective operation of the home, including decision-making, staff supervision, safeguarding, and administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Care Practice
- Lead and supervise staff to ensure high standards of care in line with Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating excellent childcare practice
- Support and supervise Key Workers to ensure effective assessment, planning, monitoring, and review for each child
- Promote children’s rights, wellbeing, and participation in decision-making
- Safeguarding & Compliance
- Actively safeguard children and promote their welfare in line with Flora Care’s Child Protection Policy
- Report concerns promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Safeguarding Officer
- Ensure accurate, confidential, and up-to-date case records are maintained
- Casework & Multi-Agency Working
- Attend and contribute to reviews, case conferences, and planning meetings
- Compile and support others to produce high-quality written reports
- Work effectively with parents, professionals, and external agencies
- Operational & Administrative Duties
- Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with administrative tasks
- Take responsibility for administrative and operational functions when required
- Assist with staff management, development, and performance
- Contribute to the development of service practices and continuous improvement
- General Duties
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of the home, including sleep-in duties
- Act as a driver/escort for young people (school, appointments, activities)
- Carry out any reasonable duties as required by senior management
About You
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children in a residential or similar setting
- NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards it
- Experience leading or supervising staff
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and current childcare legislation
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
- High level of resilience and emotional intelligence
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships with children and adults
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive young people
- Experience in a senior or Team Leader role
- NVQ Level 4 or 5 in Residential Childcare
- Experience of staff supervision and development
- Knowledge of therapeutic care models
- A good sense of humour and strong organisational skills
