A BIT ABOUT FLOCK
At Flock we do insurance very differently. We’re nearing 1 billion connected, insured miles. Meaning our real-time, data-driven approach enables us to price connected vehicle insurance and assess risk better than ever before, giving fleet owners the insights they need to improve safety. We don’t just pay claims; we help our customers prevent them. We now insure hundreds of fleets in the UK, including the likes of Amazon, DPD, Uber and Bolt. We’ve now raised over £50M and our goal is to become the leading insurance company for connected and autonomous vehicles, and we’re building a world-class team to help us get there.
THE ROLE
Join Flock as a Full Stack Engineer within our Safety Team, where you’ll play a pivotal role in building the next generation of our telemetry and safety data platform.
WHAT WE THINK IS MOST EXCITING ABOUT THE ROLE:
- Impactful Front-End Work in a Data-Rich Environment: You’ll lead the development of powerful, user-friendly features in our customer Portal using React. As we unlock new levels of insight through a brand-new telemetry ingestion pipeline, your work will directly shape how millions of GPS datapoints are surfaced, visualized, and interacted with by our customers.
- Work at the Intersection of Data and UX: Partner closely with data engineers, backend developers, and product managers to transform complex datasets into intuitive and performant interfaces. You'll be a key bridge between raw telemetry data and the customer-facing safety insights we provide.
- Modern AWS-Driven Stack: Leverage AWS services like Lambda, API Gateway, and EventBridge to build scalable, event-driven systems. While this is a full-stack role, you’ll have ample opportunity to expand and apply your AWS knowledge in a production environment.
- Ownership and Autonomy: You’ll own the delivery of features from ideation to deployment. Your work will have a direct and visible impact on how our customers manage fleet safety and understand real-world risks.
A LITTLE MORE ON WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Front-End Engineering & Feature Delivery: Design, implement, and iterate on scalable, intuitive UIs using React (TypeScript). Build dynamic data visualizations and user interfaces that bring high-volume telemetry data to life. Ensure responsiveness, accessibility, and performance across devices and browsers.
- API-Driven Development: Integrate with and contribute to the development of RESTful APIs exposed via API Gateway. Collaborate with backend engineers to shape APIs that efficiently serve data-intensive views.
- Serverless & Cloud Infrastructure: Use your AWS experience (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, EventBridge, CloudWatch) to support and extend the telemetry data ingestion and delivery pipeline. Work with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CDK for provisioning long-lived resources.
- Collaboration & Agile Delivery: Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to scope, deliver, and test features. Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives in our Agile process.
- Code Quality & Mentorship: Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews. Share your knowledge and support the growth of junior engineers in the squad.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO FLOCK
ESSENTIAL: Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript, with a portfolio of front-end projects or features that demonstrate your ability to build elegant, data-driven interfaces. Good working knowledge of AWS services, especially in event-driven/serverless environments (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge). Comfortable working with and visualizing large volumes of data from telemetry or similar systems.
PREFERABLE: Familiarity with CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions), automated testing (unit, integration, E2E), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) is a plus. Exposure to authentication systems like Auth0 and monitoring tools such as DataDog is beneficial.
WHAT WE OFFER (in addition to a competitive salary): Participation in Flock’s Share Option Scheme, 25 days of holiday (+
