Flitetec is looking for a practical and experienced Health and Safety Advisor / Manager to support our aviation component distribution and aircraft interior manufacturing business. This opportunity could suit either a part-time employee, a self-employed consultant, or a fractional health and safety professional looking to work with a small, quality-led and regulated business.

We are seeking competent support to review and strengthen our current health and safety arrangements, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, risk register, COSHH / chemical safety, REACH-related compliance support, health surveillance advice and general site health and safety management. The successful person will work closely with our General Manager, Quality Team, Production Manager, HR, Occupational Health provider and shop floor technical leads to ensure our arrangements are compliant, practical, proportionate and suitable for our business.

Flitetec operates in a regulated aviation environment and holds aviation-related accreditations including EASA and CAA approvals, so experience in manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, aviation, distribution or another regulated environment would be particularly valuable. We expect the role to require additional input during the first few months while an initial review is completed and priority actions are addressed. After this, the ongoing requirement is expected to be approximately 2 days per month, subject to business need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out an initial review of our current health and safety arrangements and provide a written report with recommendations.
  • Review and update our Health and Safety Handbook, policies and procedures.
  • Review our risk assessment process and recommend improvements.
  • Update and maintain our health and safety risk register.
  • Support COSHH, chemical safety and REACH-related compliance activity in conjunction with our General Manager and Quality Team.
  • Provide health surveillance advice, working with HR and our Occupational Health provider where required.
  • Carry out site inspections and provide practical advice to managers and employees.
  • Support incident, near miss and accident reporting, investigation and corrective actions.
  • Help ensure health and safety arrangements remain audit-ready, compliant and proportionate.
Skills and Experience Required
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, aviation, aerospace, distribution or a regulated environment.
  • Practical experience of risk assessments, COSHH, health and safety policies, procedures and risk registers.
  • Ability to provide clear, proportionate and commercially sensible advice.
  • Confident working with senior managers, operational teams and shop floor employees.
  • IOSH membership would be desirable.
  • Experience with chemical safety, REACH, health surveillance or aviation-related compliance would be advantageous.
Engagement

Part-time employed, self-employed consultant or fractional arrangement considered. Initial project phase followed by an anticipated ongoing commitment of approximately 2 days per month. Rate / salary to be agreed depending on experience and engagement model.
