Hey there, it’s the Flipper Devices team. We’re the creators behind Flipper Zero, a portable multi-tool for tech enthusiasts and engineers. It’s a cult gadget with a worldwide community. Right now, we’re building a new content direction: long‑form educational videos for our YouTube channel. Think science‑pop meets hands‑on tech — in the spirit of channels like Veritasium or MythBusters, but for the world of hardware hacking, radio protocols, and everyday tech experiments.

We already have a team of videographers, editors, designers, and technical writers. Now we’re looking for a Video Director — someone who can take a complex technical idea and turn it into a clear, engaging, and visually captivating 15–25 minute story from start to finish. You’ll be the mind connecting storytelling, filmmaking, and technology — developing narrative structures, creating storyboards and animatics, writing visual references, and directing the entire production process. We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of visual communication.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full creative lifecycle of educational videos — from initial idea through scripting, storyboarding, filming, and post‑production to final delivery.
  • Take a technical concept or experiment and develop it into a clear, compelling ~20‑minute narrative that a non‑expert can follow and enjoy.
  • Create detailed storyboards and, when useful, animatics (rough video mockups assembled from sketches) to communicate your vision to the team before filming.
  • Define how every element — footage, graphics, captions, music, and pacing — works together to tell the story.
  • Direct videographers on set: what to shoot, how to frame it, what visual approach best serves each part of the narrative.
  • Guide editors on timing, structure, and tone to maintain clarity and engagement throughout the video.
  • Collaborate closely with technical writers and engineers to ensure accuracy while keeping the story accessible.
  • Work with designers on graphics, animations, and visual assets that illustrate abstract concepts.
  • Maintain a consistent visual and narrative style across all educational content.
  • Participate in creative ideation sessions and help refine ideas for maximum viewer impact.

Your Team

You’ll work alongside a dedicated production team. You won’t need to shoot or edit yourself — your job is to direct the process and make the story work.

  • 2 videographers (who also handle editing)
  • 1 on‑camera host / speaker (who is also a technical writer)
  • 2 technical writers who can explain the underlying technology
  • Head of Video (your primary reporting line)

Requirements

  • Portfolio or examples of educational, documentary, or storytelling‑driven video work.
  • 3+ years of experience in video direction, creative direction, or narrative‑driven video production.
  • Strong understanding of visual communication and story structure — you can break down a complex topic into a sequence of clear, visual beats.
  • Experience creating storyboards and/or animatics as part of pre‑production.
  • Proven ability to direct and coordinate a video team (videographers, editors, designers).
  • Familiarity with the full video production pipeline: scripting, pre‑production, filming, post‑production.
  • Genuine curiosity about technology — you’re willing to dive into how things work (radio frequencies, firmware, protocols) even if it’s not your background.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Nice‑to‑Haves

  • Experience producing science‑pop, explainer, or educational video content.
  • Background in design, motion graphics, or visual communication.
  • Hands‑on experience with gadgets, hardware hacking, or engineering.
  • Ability to create animatics or rough video prototypes to communicate ideas.

What We Offer

  • Workplace in our stand‑alone office in Design District, near North Greenwich Station (Jubilee Line), with all the amenities for a comfortable and creative workday.
  • Access to professional filming gear, computers, and software.
  • Benefits: VHI, corporate sports, foreign language courses, and therapy sessions.
  • Five‑day workweek with a flexible start of the working day.
  • A chance to build the visual language of a new educational content direction from the ground up — inside one of the most creative tech communities in the world.
