Job Description

Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board is seeking an experienced rating surveyor who is interested in joining our organisation as a Principal Valuer, directly assisting our Divisional Assessors with the management of our technical teams, as we build upon our successes in delivering on the Assessor\’s statutory functions.

The position of Principal Valuer could be an exciting step forward in your career, and open opportunities for further progression as you develop your management skills. We aim to support our people in reaching their full potential and you will be vital in helping us develop trainees and less experienced colleagues.

You should have excellent influential and motivational skills with a professional and positive attitude. Having the confidence to guide others and to make quick and sound decisions is vital, as it (the) ability to multitask, plan and prioritise workloads to ensure that strict deadlines are achieved.

You will also be allocated survey and valuation work, using your skills to deal with subjects and projects of a more complex nature, cascading your knowledge to others. You will use your negotiation experience to reach settlement on Proposals & Appeals with taxpayers and professional agents, whilst preparing cases for presentation to the First Tier & Upper Tribunal and acting as expert witness at tribunal hearings.

About Us

Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board was established in 1996 and discharges jointly the functions of North, South and East Ayrshire Valuation authorities. It is a council in its own right, separate from the three Ayrshire Councils, comprising 16 members, elected councillors from each of the three authorities for which the Board has responsibility. The Board appoints the Assessor who is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Valuation Roll and Valuation List, which are the base documents required for the three Ayrshire Councils to gather non-domestic rates and council tax. The three Councils also appoint the Assessor to be the Electoral Registration Officer, responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Register of Electors, which is essential for all Parliamentary and Local Government Elections.

The grade of this post is Level 12.

The work style for this post is Hybrid Worker.

The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly between home and the office and the frequency for attending the office may vary depending on the exigencies of the service.
