The IP Design Specialist (Architect) plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of network design and strategy across a diverse portfolio of technologies including IP/MPLS networks, hybrid cloud platforms, and next-gen mobile infrastructure. This senior technical leader is responsible for high-level architectural direction, cross-domain integration, and setting design standards that support critical transformation and growth initiatives across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic IP network architecture efforts across LAN/WAN, MPLS core, cloud networking, and virtualized network functions (VNF/CNF).
- Develop and govern HLDs (High-Level Designs) ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and business objectives.
- Collaborate with CTO, Product, and Infrastructure teams to define architectural blueprints and long-term roadmaps.
- Act as SME for critical technologies such as SDN, NFV, service chaining, and Cloud-native networking.
- Guide and mentor designers and engineers in complex solution development and design best practices.
- Define and enforce network design standards, patterns, and reusable components across the enterprise.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions, supporting innovation and network evolution.
- Lead cross-functional design assurance and technical steering groups.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Senior-level expertise in service provider routing, large-scale MPLS, BGP, multitenant network design.
- Strong experience architecting both traditional infrastructure and cloud-based (OpenStack, AWS, Azure) networking.
- In-depth knowledge of modern network architectures, including microservices, API-driven platforms, and DevOps integration.
- Experience in enterprise security and network segmentation best practices.
- Familiarity with network automation and orchestration: Ansible, Python, Netconf/YANG, REST APIs.
- Excellent strategic thinking, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
Desirable Certifications
- CCIE/JNCIE/SRA or equivalent level of demonstrable experience.
- TOGAF, AWS Solution Architect, or equivalent enterprise architecture certification is advantageous.
