Designated Safeguarding Person in Flint

Flint High School is seeking to appoint an experienced, highly organised and compassionate Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP) to lead and coordinate safeguarding and child protection across our school.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and protection of every learner.

Working closely with senior leaders, governors, staff, families and external agencies, you will lead the school's safeguarding culture, coordinate child protection processes, provide expert advice and guidance to staff, and ensure safeguarding remains at the heart of everything we do.

You will oversee safeguarding systems, manage referrals and casework, line manage the pastoral team and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Persons, and work collaboratively with external agencies to secure the best possible outcomes for vulnerable learners.

Through your leadership, professionalism and commitment to safeguarding, you will help create a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every learner can thrive.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, ensuring compliance with Welsh Government guidance and statutory requirements while continually strengthening safeguarding practice across the school.

Qualifications

• A Level 5 qualification in Education, Wellbeing, Social Care or a related field.
• Significant experience of safeguarding and child protection, including experience as a Designated or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Person.
• Experience of working with children, young people and families, alongside multi‑agency partners.
• Experience of leading, managing or supervising staff within a safeguarding or pastoral context.
• A thorough knowledge of Welsh safeguarding legislation, Keeping Learners Safe and Wales Safeguarding Procedures.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
• The ability to provide high‑quality safeguarding advice, guidance and training to staff.
• A compassionate, resilient and learner‑centred approach with an unwavering commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and learner wellbeing.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and a willingness to undertake further training.
