About the role

We are looking for a Consultant / Senior Consultant to support the delivery of client work and business development across our Policy and Political Analysis team in our London office. You will work at the intersection of politics, public policy and commercial strategy, helping senior decision‑makers understand how a changing policy and regulatory environment will shape their business – and what to do about it.

On any given day you might:

  • Research and draft a policy positioning paper
  • Design a stakeholder engagement and advocacy strategy
  • Analyse the implications of a legislative or select committee debate
  • Prepare a briefing for a ministerial or senior official meeting
  • Contribute to political and regulatory due diligence on a sector or transaction
  • Attend events and conferences to track developments in key policy areas

You will analyse the complex policy and political challenges our clients face and develop practical options to address them. You will engage with senior stakeholders up to Board member and Executive team level. You will have the chance to work on a range of projects and across sectors as part of a mixed‑discipline team.

Flint provides an excellent professional and educational environment for people to accelerate their personal and career development. We invest in people through structured training, mentoring and regular internal discussions on live policy and political issues. There is clear scope for progression as you grow your skills and experience.

We are recruiting at both Consultant and Senior Consultant level. The core work is similar, but the level of ownership and responsibility differs.

Consultants

Consultants usually join us with more than two years’ professional experience in a field relevant to our work, such as the civil service, consultancy, politics, regulation, competition or a policy field. Consultants will typically:

  • Monitor political, policy, regulatory and competition developments relevant to clients, and summarise them clearly and promptly
  • Draft client materials, including advice, strategies, presentations, reports and briefings
  • Support the effective administration of accounts and projects (for example, preparing agendas, taking notes and actions, and maintaining trackers)
  • Work across multiple client accounts, building strong working relationships and providing sound, well‑structured advice
  • Contribute to business development by supporting research for new proposals, helping prepare materials and keeping internal tools up to date

Senior Consultants

Senior Consultants usually have more than three years’ professional experience in relevant fields, often including experience leading workstreams or projects and working closely with senior stakeholders. Senior Consultants will typically:

  • Monitor and interpret political, policy, regulatory and competition developments, and explain clearly what they mean for clients’ interests
  • Draft high‑quality client materials, bringing together evidence, strategic thinking and clear recommendations
  • Lead projects or substantial workstreams, coordinating delivery across the account team and ensuring high standards of quality and timeliness
  • Provide day‑to‑day guidance and support to Consultants and Interns on the account team
  • Play a visible role in managing client relationships on specific accounts and being responsive to client needs
  • Contribute actively to business development and marketing, including identifying new opportunities, supporting proposals and participating in outreach or events

What are we looking for?

At both Consultant and Senior Consultant level, we are looking for people with a strong record of achievement, commitment, drive and a willingness to learn. You will be able to demonstrate:

  • A keen interest and understanding of policy and politics, as well as how they shape commercial outcomes. Knowledge of devolution policy would be a benefit.
  • Strong analytical, research and problem‑solving skills – the ability to draw out the implications of complex evidence and analysis to give clear strategic and policy advice.
  • An ability and enthusiasm to get up to speed in new topic areas rapidly.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills - the ability to draft clear documents and communicate complex issues to both specialists and non‑specialists.
  • Strong organisational skills - the ability to plan and prioritise complex tasks, manage project timelines, and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – a flexible approach and the ability to work well across teams.
