We are looking for an experienced senior Business Development Manager within the professional services sector to work with our Commercial, Licensing, Property, Corporate & Finance, and Dispute Resolution teams. The role reports to the Chief Executive and focuses on developing new business and expanding existing relationships across all practice areas and geographies.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate new business leads for your area/sector by researching the market.
- Call agreed targets/potential clients and build relationships.
- Follow up on new business enquiries from various sources, including the website, lapsed clients, and event attendees.
- Design and follow a carefully set business development plan for the commercial departments, in partnership with the Heads of Departments.
- Work towards new business targets and KPIs as set by the CEO and Head of Marketing.
- Analyse existing approaches to business development, suggesting changes where appropriate.
- Conduct face‑to‑face meetings with key internal decision makers in commercial legal teams.
- Update the CRM system with key BD activities and maintain follow‑up actions including calls, client visits and Teams meetings where relevant.
- Proactively create opportunities for Heads of Departments and other fee earners to meet and influence key decision‑makers at target clients to assist with upselling and cross‑selling activities.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to devise suitable marketing and sales documentation and tools to support new business development activities.
- Attend key events to capture business leads and ensure timely follow‑up and CRM entry.
- Provide detailed monthly and quarterly progress reports for the Head of Marketing and CEO on sales opportunities and pipeline activities.
- Provide detailed competitor analysis when requested to support business development focuses.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Significant experience in a B2B business development or sales representative role, ideally within a professional services environment.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Successful track record of achieving set KPIs within a BD or sales role.
- Evidence of winning key clients in previous roles.
- High level of commercial awareness adaptable to the legal services sector.
- Self‑motivated, well‑organised, able to multi‑task and prioritise own workload.
