This role is responsible for managing a significant personal caseload of complex defendant catastrophic injury (large loss) pre-litigated and litigated claims, received from motor insurance clients.

As a senior member of the insurance litigation team, this role is also responsible for taking an active lead on team development & mentoring, leading business development efforts and taking on more complex fee‑earning matters.

Reporting directly to the Head of Insurance Litigation, the role should also assist with setting team strategy and managing performance as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fee‑Earning
  • Manage a varied caseload of complex defendant catastrophic (large loss) matters.
  • Demonstrate a creative and innovative approach to dealing with claims.
  • Assist insurer clients in devising strategies aimed at achieving exposure containment and reduction.
  • As well as managing a personal caseload of more complex matters, this role is responsible for taking on additional workload where necessary in the instance that the department is nearing full capacity.
  • Provide ongoing technical support on matters for more junior fee‑earners.
  • Ensure personal legal knowledge is kept up to date and new advancements are communicated to the wider team.
  • Assisting Management
  • Attend monthly fee‑earner meetings with the wider team. Contribute where required as a senior member of the team.
  • Attend regular one‑to‑one meetings with the Head of Insurance Litigation and Chief Executive Officer – report on departmental priorities and financial performance as necessary.
  • Provide supervision of matters for more junior fee‑earners, sign off work as and when required.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of fee‑earning matters within the team – regularly assess capacity of fee‑earners and delegate work effectively where required by the Head of Insurance Litigation.
  • Work alongside the Head of Insurance Litigation to proactively drive performance of the team – conduct meetings with more junior fee‑earners where necessary.
  • Business Development
  • Take an active lead in managing the client experience. Attend client meetings where necessary.
  • Engage in high‑level client relationship contact and development.
  • Report regularly on business development figures to senior management.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will

  • Have between 4‑6 years’ experience in large loss work in the insurance litigation arena.
  • Possess excellent client care and communication skills.
  • Have a sound knowledge of IT systems and processes, such as the Microsoft suite.
  • Be a hard‑working and highly‑motivated individual with the ability to work cohesively as part of a larger team.
